Apple set to Unveil Thinner iPhone 17 Air Alongside New Models
CUPERTINO, CA – Apple is expected to unveil a new iPhone model, the iPhone 17 Air, at its event Tuesday, alongside updates to its existing lineup. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air is poised to be the main attraction, representing a meaningful departure from typical annual updates.
The iPhone 17 Air is reported to be remarkably thin, measuring just 5.5 millimeters – substantially slimmer than the iPhone 16 Pro’s 8.25 millimeters. Gurman reports the “iPhone 17 Air” name is finalized, aligning with apple’s existing ”Air” branding used for the MacBook Air and iPad Air.
The new device will feature Apple’s A19 chip, the same processor expected in the standard iPhone 17. All new iPhone models will adopt a standard USB-C connection. The iPhone 17 Air will sport a 6.6-inch display, positioning it between the 6.12-inch iPhone 16 and the 6.86-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max in size.To achieve its slim profile, Apple has reportedly removed the physical SIM card tray, opting for eSIM technology - already utilized in the Apple watch and increasingly supported by mobile providers. The iPhone 17 Air will also incorporate Apple’s in-house developed C1 modem chip, first used in the iPhone 16E, which Apple claims is more energy-efficient.
Pricing for the iPhone 17 Air remains unknown, but Gurman suggests it will fall between the price points of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 pro.
Apple’s event begins at 7 p.m. and will be covered live by T-online with a live ticker.
