This period saw a shift from a few lineages of small,bipedal,carnivorous/faunivorous animals to a wide array of sauropodomorphs during the norian-Rhaetian. These later forms were medium-to-large in size, adopted quadrupedal locomotion, and developed herbivorous diets. The emergence of major lineages like Massopoda and Sauropodiformes, along with increased morphological disparity and the development of novel anatomical features, further attests to this dramatic increase in paleobiodiversity in southern Pangea during the Norian.

The new species was found in Brazil, Argentina, southern Africa, and North America, indicating a widespread distribution of these early sauropodomorphs.
