Camboon, Qld – A wedding celebration at the historic Camboon Campdraft Hall turned chaotic Saturday evening when a severe storm ripped through Central queensland, entirely demolishing the hall and injuring at least nine peopel. Approximately 100 guests were sheltering inside when the roof and a nearby shed were torn away by the intense weather.
The Camboon Campdraft hall, a historic landmark, was “completely demolished,” according to allan Murray, president of the Camboon Campdraft committee, who inspected the damage Sunday. A shed near the main hall was reduced to pillars. numerous caravans were also written off.
A woman in her 20s was transported to Moura Hospital wiht a foot injury sustained during the shed’s collapse.Paramedics also took a woman in her 30s from the Esk region to hospital in a stable condition with head and neck injuries. Eight other people across the state were assessed for hail-related injuries.
“I’m just thankful we got out OK,and everyone was alright,” said wedding guest Ms. Nix. She added that the groom – Mr. Baxter’s stepbrother – “was pretty shaken up” but “did a great job keeping everyone calm.”
The incident occurred as severe storms swept across Queensland, with some areas in the south-east recording hailstones up to nine centimetres in diameter. Hundreds of Queensland residents were left without power as the state braced for further storms.
The Queensland Fire Department confirmed that while approximately 100 people were inside the hall at the time of the collapse, the vast majority were uninjured. Clean-up efforts are underway.
