Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan‘sโข Pioneering 1957 Collaboration, Getz Meets Mulligan, to Receive Deluxe vinyl Reissue
A landmark recording that capturedโข a unique musical moment-the first time saxophone titans Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan played primary horns together-will be reissued on vinyl October 24, 2025, as โpart of Verve Records’ acclaimed Acoustic Sounds series. Getz Meets Mulligan, originally released in 1957,has long been celebrated for its innovative instrumentation and the interplay between two giants of cool jazz.
Thisโ reissueโ offers audiophiles a chance to experience the album withโ renewed fidelity, mastered โfrom original analog tapes by Ryan K. โSmith at Sterling โSound โunder the supervision of Chad โขKassem, CEO โof acousticโข Sounds. The six-track album features Getz on baritone sax and mulligan on tenor for its opening โtrio of tracksโ (“Let’s Fallโฃ in love,” “Anything Goes,” and “Too Close โฃfor comfort”), accompanied by Lou Levy on piano, Ray Brown on โคbass, and Stan Levey on drums-marking the only instance the duo recordedโข in a quintet format.
Getz and Mulligan were central figures in the cool jazz movement, a sophisticated โฃpost-WWII style that evolved โคfrom bebop and big bandโ traditions. Mulligan gained renownโ for his work with Chet โBaker andโ compositions like “walkin’ โShoes” and “Five Brothers,”โ while Getz is widely credited withโ bringing bossa nova to a broader American audience with hits like “The โคGirl From โคIpanema” (1964).
The Verve Acoustic Sounds series is dedicated to preserving classic jazz recordings with high-qualityโ vinyl releases. Other titles in the series include albums by John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, and Nina Simone. โPrevious releases have also featured Getz (Sweet Rain,Getz Au Go Go) and Mulligan (Mulligan’s Night Lights).
