Dynamo Dresden to Profit From Former Player’s Success at Osnabrück

by Emma Walker – News Editor February 26, 2026

VfL Osnabrück will exercise its option to permanently sign forward Robin Meißner from SG Dynamo Dresden, Osnabrück’s sporting director Joe Enochs confirmed to Tag24. The move secures a financial windfall for Dresden, stemming from a deal initially brokered by former sporting director Thomas Brendel.

Meißner, 26, joined Osnabrück on loan in the summer of 2025, having previously struggled to secure a consistent role with Dynamo Dresden. Despite not being a regular starter during Dresden’s promotion season, Brendel surprisingly extended Meißner’s contract – which was set to expire in June 2025 – by two years in February 2025, a decision that drew criticism from within the club’s supervisory board.

The forward’s fortunes dramatically improved upon his move to Osnabrück, where he quickly became a key player under coach Timo Schultz, having previously played under him at St. Pauli II. Meißner has contributed eight goals and seven assists for Osnabrück, playing a significant role in their promotion challenge in the 3. Liga.

The loan agreement included a purchase option of approximately €150,000. However, a further payment of nearly €200,000 will be triggered if Osnabrück achieves promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. According to Enochs, the club intends to activate the purchase option. “Robin has settled in highly well, is extremely valuable for our attack, which is why we will permanently sign him. You don’t find a striker with this record so easily,” he stated.

The deal was structured to minimize financial risk for Osnabrück, with the club covering Meißner’s full salary, and the player agreeing to a reduction in his earnings. Brendel’s foresight in negotiating these terms has proven beneficial for Dynamo Dresden, turning a previously underutilized asset into a potential source of revenue.

Katharina Schmid Olympic Disappointment: Ski Jump Exit & Tears | Bild.de

Katharina Schmid, Germany’s flagbearer, experienced a heartbreaking end to her Olympic career with a crash during the women’s ski jumping competition at the Predazzo Olympic venue on Sunday evening. The 29-year-old, who announced her planned retirement at the end of the current season, finished 42nd after landing at 96.5 meters, failing to qualify for the second round. The competition was won by Norway’s Anna Odine Stroem, securing her first Olympic gold medal, following her victory on the Normal Hill. Her compatriot, Eirin Maria Kvandal, took silver, and Nika Prevc of Slovenia claimed the bronze. Schmid’s disappointing performance came despite her honor of carrying the German flag at the opening ceremony. “If you don’t have the form, then you also get this ugly headwind. I feel incredibly sorry for her,” said ski jumping legend Sven Hannawald in a livestream broadcast by ARD, a German public broadcaster. “What can you do? On the one hand, so many positive feelings and emotions with the honor of being the flagbearer, and then this…” The challenging wind conditions were a significant factor for several competitors. Hannawald noted a 3.5-meter-per-second tailwind during Schmid’s jump, which he suggested made a fine performance nearly impossible. Following her crash, Schmid attempted to maintain composure, acknowledging the crowd with a bow before visibly breaking down in tears. “It hurts so much, I didn’t want it to end like this,” she said, her voice choked with emotion. “I would have liked to have shown at least one more jump. You always wish for things to be different. Whether better conditions would have helped – I don’t realize. I just want to go home now, to my family. Thank God everyone is here.” Agnes Reisch finished tenth and Selina Freitag placed seventeenth, both hampered by unfavorable wind conditions during their first jumps. Juliane Seyfarth, competing in her first Olympic Games on the large hill, also struggled, falling on her second jump after a promising initial effort of 119 meters, ultimately finishing 23rd. The Olympic Games continue in Italy, with further ski jumping events scheduled throughout the week.
