UK Braces for Six Days of Blizzards as Heavy Snowfall Looms
London, UK – The United Kingdom is preparing for a important winter weather event, with forecasts predicting six consecutive days of blizzards bringing potential snowfall rates of up to 5cm per hour. The heaviest snow is expected to impact northern areas, but weather charts indicate the possibility of flakes reaching as far south as Southampton.
The impending snowfall comes as the Met Office signals a shift in weather patterns, moving from current unsettled conditions towards a possibly drier, cooler period mid-November. While the long-range forecast remains uncertain, the agency highlights an increased chance of high pressure systems bringing overnight frost and fog alongside the wintry precipitation. This forecast is notably relevant as the UK enters a period where colder spells are becoming increasingly likely.
According to forecasts, drier spells are anticipated, particularly in eastern and northern regions. However, clear skies and light winds will create conditions conducive to frost and fog formation, potentially causing travel disruptions.
The Met office’s long-range outlook, covering November 21 to December 5, indicates a risk of hill snow, primarily in the north, alongside spells of rain and stronger winds, especially in the west. While near or slightly above average temperatures are most likely the possibility of colder spells remains, particularly if settled weather patterns develop.
“Whilst the expected weather patterns during late November are highly uncertain, there is a greater chance of spells of high pressure during this period, bringing more in the way of dry weather compared to the current weather pattern, which also increases the chances of overnight fog and frost,” the Met Office stated.
