OpenAI Boosts Mac AI Capabilities with Acquisition of Sky
Jakarta,Indonesia – OpenAI has acquired Software Applications Inc., the developer of Sky, a natural language interface designed for Mac computers. The move signals OpenAI’s ambition to move beyond conversational AI and create a proactive, context-aware assistant for everyday users.
Sky, which has not yet been publicly released, is built for deep integration with macOS. It’s designed to understand what’s happening on a user’s screen and directly interact with applications to perform tasks. OpenAI intends to integrate Sky’s technology into its existing products,most notably ChatGPT.
according to OpenAI, the Sky team will join the company instantly. This integration aims to transform AI assistants from simply responding to commands to actively assisting users with their daily workflows.

The acquisition comes as Apple intensifies its focus on AI, with plans to release an updated Siri and expand its Apple Intelligence ecosystem.
while the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Software Applications Inc. had previously secured approximately USD 6.5 million in funding from investors. this acquisition positions OpenAI to deliver a considerably enhanced AI experience specifically tailored for Mac users.
