A University of Southern California PhD student has confessed to drugging and sexually assaulting three women, authorities announced Wednesday. Zhen Weng, 30, faces multiple felony charges following a police examination that uncovered disturbing evidence at his residence, including explicit photographs, leather restraints, and syringes.
the case raises serious concerns about campus safety and the vulnerability of students, prompting USC to immediately bar Weng from campus and pledge full cooperation with law enforcement. If convicted,Weng could receive a life sentence. The assaults allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2023, and the investigation began after one victim came forward, leading to the identification of two additional survivors.
Los Angeles Police Department detectives executed a search warrant at Weng’s home, discovering a cache of items indicative of premeditation and control. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Weng used substances to incapacitate the women before sexually assaulting them.
“We are deeply disturbed by these allegations and are committed to supporting the victims and ensuring the safety of our community,” a USC spokesperson stated. The university confirmed Weng recently completed his doctorate in electrical engineering.
Weng is currently being held and awaiting arraignment. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
