Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Regional STEM Allianceโค (TRSA) is expanding its SeaPerch underwater robotics program โwith a professionalโฃ development training โฃheld for โ20 teachers on Thursday. Theโ initiative aims to equip โeducators with the skills andโ knowledge to launch SeaPerch programs at their schools.
The SeaPerch program involves studentsโข building Remotely Operated Vehicles (rovs) andโ competing inโค challenges โthat requireโ navigatingโฃ obstacle and competition courses.โข TRSA Program Manager Allison Bailey explained the training covered essential building techniques, โขincluding โข”cutting pipe, โขto soldering, to drilling.”
Bailey highlighted the program’s โrelevance to future careers, noting a partnership with the Naval League to demonstrate alignment between SeaPerch skills โขand those used in โขthe Navy. โ”Kids in the classroom can โคlearn how to โdrive this robot just like men and women โin the Navy are driving underwater vehicles,”โ she said.
Laceyโฃ Marshall, a teacher from โDeborah Brown Communityโ School, โexpressed enthusiasm for โคbringing theโฃ program to her students, stating โit would “show them different ways on how to becomeโ different โฃtypes ofโค engineers.”
TRSA hosts the Regional SeaPerchโ Competition annually each spring. โขWhile this year’s โchallenge remains unannounced, teams will โsoon begin preparing.
