New York, NY – Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has petitioned a federal court for a $50 million bail, following his conviction on sex trafficking and racketeering charges last week. The request comes as Combs awaits sentencing.
Defense attorneys argue that Combs poses no flight risk and presents no danger to the community. They maintain he is not a threat to public safety and would appear for all future court proceedings.
Separately, last week, Combs’ lawyers filed a motion seeking either a full acquittal or a new trial. This motion centers on claims that the prosecution under the Mann Act was unconstitutional, alleging an overreach of federal power in the case.
In a 62-page memorandum supporting their arguments, Combs’ attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, asserted that “This conviction is flawed and should not stand.” The defense contends the evidence presented was insufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
However, several witnesses in the case, including former girlfriend Cassandra Ventura (known as Cassie), have submitted letters to the court urging the judge to deny bail. These letters express fears for their safety should Combs be released prior to sentencing.Ventura testified during the trial about years of alleged abuse.
Throughout the trial, the jury was presented with extensive evidence of Combs’ alleged physical abuse of Ventura. This included photographic and video evidence, notably surveillance footage from a 2016 incident at a hotel in Beverly Hills, California, where Combs was seen striking Ventura. CNN first published portions of this footage.
Judge Analisa Torres previously denied bail instantly following the verdict, citing a documented pattern of violence admitted by Combs in past relationships. The trial revealed allegations spanning decades, involving multiple accusers. The case was heard in the Southern District of New York.
