Samsung Leaks Hint at Revolutionary Tri-Fold Phone
Galaxy G Fold could be unveiled later this year
Just ahead of its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, Samsung may have inadvertently teased a brand-new device. Recent leaks suggest the tech giant is working on a tri-fold phone, potentially named the Galaxy G Fold, setting the stage for innovation.
Tri-Fold Design Revealed
An animation spotted within the latest One UI 8 beta update reveals a device with three folding parts and two hinges. This design aligns with **Samsungโs** previous Flex G prototype. The new design appears more refined, suggesting the company is close to showcasing the device, which could be named the Galaxy G Fold.
The animation illustrates how to position the phone for NFC payments, clearly displaying the tri-fold mechanism. The rear cameras are arranged vertically in the top-left corner, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series. A front camera is located on what appears to be the middle screen, potentially serving as the cover screen when folded. The right panel features a regular display with slim bezels, offering a large, tablet-like screen when fully unfolded.
Innovative Folding Mechanism
Unlike **Huaweiโs** foldable designs, **Samsungโs** tri-fold folds inward in a G shape, possibly offering better screen protection when closed. While the animation does not reveal the phoneโs name or specifications, it strongly implies that **Samsung** is preparing to unveil the device. As of 2024, foldable phones only make up 1.6% of global smartphone shipments, but that number is expected to rise as the technology improves Counterpoint Research.
Unpacked Event Expectations
The Galaxy G Fold is unlikely to debut at the July 9 event. Instead, it might be briefly teased, with a full reveal expected later in October. The primary focus of the Unpacked event will be the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Both phones have been leaked in renders and live photos, and are expected to come in Jet Black and Blue Shadow color options.
The new foldables are rumored to feature a slimmer design, lighter build, and high-end specs, potentially including the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. **Samsung** might also introduce a more budget-friendly Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, along with the Galaxy Watch 8 series.
