Galaxy Ring Battery Issue Forces Traveler to Hospital,Misses Flight
A Samsungโค Galaxy Ring reportedly swelled while โbeing worn, causing a user to require medical โassistance to remove the device and ultimately miss a scheduled flight. The incident, first โreportedโ by tech creator Daniel (@ZONEofTECH)โค on X (formerly Twitter), highlights potential battery concerns with Samsung’s newly released smart โring.
Daniel shared photos on โseptember 21, 2024, โshowing the ring visibly bulging against his finger. He initially โposted about the swelling as he was preparing โขtoโข boardโข a flight,โ noting the ring was โคpainful and could not โbe removed, and tagged โฃSamsung accounts for help. A subsequent close-up photo revealed the inner casing separating.
Samsung UK responded to Daniel on X, expressing regret and requesting a direct message โฃto escalate โtheโค issue.
In an update posted a few hours later, Daniel stated he was denied boarding, takenโ to aโข hospital, and required medical intervention to remove the ring.โ Hospital staff used ice to reduce swelling and lubricant toโข slide the โdevice offโ his finger, โafter attempts โwithโฃ soap and โhand cream โคat the airport worsened the situation andโข caused further expansion ofโ the battery.
Photos taken after removal show the Galaxy Ring’s internal components visibly distorted.โ Daniel stated he “Won’t be wearing a smart ring โever โขagain.” It remains unclear whether any damage to the internal componentsโข occurred during the removal process.
The Galaxy Ring, Samsung’s first smartโ ring which debuted inโ July โค2024, received a review from Android Authority noting underwhelming battery life. This incident raises more serious concerns about battery safety, even if it appearsโข isolated at this time.
Android Authorityโค has reached out to both the affected user and Samsung for comment.
