Ludwigshafen (dpa) – The Ludwigshafen Film Festival presented this year’s awards at a gala on the Parkinsel in the Rhine. The organizers announced on Saturday in the second largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate that the film art prize would be awarded in three categories. Honored were “Sonne and Concrete” by David Wnendt (film) and Lars Krause for “The Uncertainty Principle of Love” (director) as well as Alice Gruia for “Be just as you are” (screenplay). The audience award went to “We have a deal” by Felicitas Korn.

The actresses Martina Gedeck and Nastassja Kinski were honored at the 19th German Film Festival for their roles in “The Silent Satellites”. All prices are undoped.

After 19 days, the festival ends on Sunday. The organizers draw a positive conclusion. A total of around 112,000 tickets were sold, said director Michael Kötz. This means that the festival is building on the numbers from before the pandemic and remains the German film festival with the highest number of spectators after the Berlinale. The event on the border with Baden-Württemberg is considered an important industry meeting.

Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg Collaborate on Digital Education Platforms for School Lessons

Mannheim/Mainz (dpa) – Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg have agreed to work together on digital educational platforms for school lessons. The Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Education Stefanie Hubig (SPD) and her Baden-Württemberg counterpart Theresa Schopper (Greens) signed a corresponding agreement on Thursday in Mannheim, as announced by the Ministry of Education in Mainz.

The platform system tested in Rhineland-Palatinate should now be optimized together. Uniform training and further education concepts are also planned in both countries. The platform is intended for lesson planning and design, but also for school organization and is intended for both teachers and students.

The Impact of Crises on Start-Ups in Rhineland-Palatinate: Decrease in Numbers but Overall Growth in Companies

Mainz (dpa / lrs) – There were fewer company start-ups in Rhineland-Palatinate last year. “The pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, inflation and jumps in interest rates have also left their mark on the start-up landscape in Rhineland-Palatinate,” said Arne Rössel, chief executive of the IHK working group Rhineland-Palatinate, on Thursday in Mainz. “Due to the various crises, it is not surprising that the number of start-ups has declined somewhat.”

However, because there are still more start-ups than business closures in Rhineland-Palatinate, an increase in companies has been recorded in the state for the fourth time in a row, reported Rössel at the presentation of the start-up report Rhineland-Palatinate 2023. There were a total of 31,493 business registrations and 27,381 business deregistrations . Rhineland-Palatinate recorded an increase of 4112 companies last year.

However, changes are pending in a number of established companies in the state, emphasized the general manager of the IHK for Rheinhessen, Günter Jertz. In the next five years, up to 9,000 companies in Rhineland-Palatinate will be taken over. Due to the demographic development, this number is expected to significantly exceed the proportion of young people who dare to become self-employed.

“It is therefore crucial that we bring founders in our federal state forward together,” warned Jertz. “It must be easy to found a company here in Rhineland-Palatinate.” Politicians should therefore lower bureaucratic and tax hurdles and support the step into self-employment with tailor-made financial aid.
