Father and Son on Trial for Alleged Role in ATM Explosions Causing Millions in Damage
A father and his son are facing trial at the Dรผsseldorf district court on Thursday, July 24th, accused of renting a Mercedes-Benz that was allegedly used in ATM explosions. The incidents occurred in Dormagen and Meerbusch, resulting in damages exceeding 1.7 million euros.
ATM Blasts in Dormagen and Meerbusch
The indictment states the Mercedes was used as a getaway vehicle during an ATM blast on Kieler Strasse in Dormagen in 2021. A similar incident followed on gottlieb-Daimler-Straรe in Meerbusch-Osterath, where an attempted ATM explosion caused notable property damage.
Social Media Rental Allegations
Prosecutors allege the defendants offered the vehicle for rent on social media platforms, including Snapchat, for a minimum of 500 euros daily. They are accused of knowing the car would be used for criminal activities and as an escape vehicle, facing charges that include aiding commercial heavy theft.
