[27日 ロイター] – Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said that if Ukraine does not accept the peace deal proposed by Russia in its own interests, the Russian military will solve the problem. TASS reported on the night of the 26th.

He has proposed the demilitarization and denazification of Ukrainian government-controlled areas and the elimination of threats to Russia’s security, including in newly claimed territories.

“The problem is simple: you (Ukraine) accept it for its own benefit, or the Russian military will solve the problem,” he said.

“The ball is in the court of the (Ukrainian) government and the United States is behind it,” he said about how long the conflict would last.

KYIV (Reuters) – At least 10 people have been killed and 58 injured in a Russian attack on the southern city of Kherson, recently recaptured by Ukrainian forces, local officials said.

Pro-Russian officials said the Ukrainian military launched the attack to denounce the Russian military.

President Volodymyr Zelensky posted photos of the area on social networking sites, where burned cars, broken glass and dead bodies were strewn. “Social media is likely to mark these photos as ‘sensitive content’. But this is not sensitive content and the situation facing Ukraine and Ukrainians,” he said. “These are not military installations. This is terrorism, killing for intimidation and pleasure,” he said.

Ukraine’s government-appointed governor Yanushevich told state television that the death toll had risen to 10, Interfax Ukraine news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the Russian-appointed Governor Sard has given up on social media, saying the Ukrainian government had ordered the military to fire on them.

A local official said the missile landed near a supermarket near Liberty Square in the city.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm Kherson’s report.

Russia Increases Military Size By More Than 30%, President Supports Defense Minister’s Proposal | Reuters

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 22, 2022
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

[21日 ロイター] – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday backed plans to increase the size of the army by more than 30%. At a meeting of military leaders, Defense Minister Shoigu proposed increasing combat personnel from 1.15 million to 1.5 million.

Putin said he needed to learn from the problems he faced in Ukraine and solve them. Putin just this summer signed a decree ordering an increase of 137,000 combat personnel from January 1, 2023, to the level of 1.15 million. In addition, he issued a partial mobilization order and summoned 300,000 people, causing social unrest such as draft evasion and anti-war demonstrations.

US and Western military analysts estimate that tens of thousands of Russian soldiers died in the 10 months following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On Thursday, Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov said Russia could prepare strike forces in Belarus to launch a new offensive against Ukraine, but hoped Belarus would not go to war. [キーウ 20日 ロイター] – Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov said on Thursday that Russia could prepare strike forces in Belarus to launch a new offensive against Ukraine, but hoped Belarus would not go to war.

Defense Minister Reznikov told Ukrainian television there was so far no evidence that Russia would begin forming an offensive fighting force in Belarus or that Belarus would be drawn into invading Ukraine. “I don’t think it’s in the interests of the Belarusian leadership to waste military power,” he said, “I hope the current balance is maintained.”

While Belarus did not directly participate in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian officials say Russian forces have continued to attack Ukraine using Belarusian airfields since the invasion began on February 24.

Rezhnikov’s remarks came after Ukraine’s chief military commander Serhiy Nayev said Russian planes were training in Belarusian airspace to identify Ukrainian targets for missile strikes, calling Ukraine’s military a “threat”.

Ukrainian officials, including Defense Minister Reznikov, have suggested that Russia could go on the offensive in winter. Russian President Vladimir Putin, accompanied by his defense and foreign ministers, visited Belarus on Friday and met with President Lukashenko, saying Russia wants to play a more direct role in Belarus over its invasion of Ukraine.

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

[キーウ 16日 ロイター] – On the 16th, Russia carried out missile attacks on various parts of Ukraine. At least three people were killed and energy infrastructure was damaged in nine locations, causing emergency power outages across the country, Ukrainian officials said.

Important infrastructure was attacked in Kharkov to the east, Odessa to the south and Vinnitsa to the west. Kharkov, central Poltava, parts of the capital Kyiv (Kyiv) and the northern province of Sumy experienced power outages.

The mayor of Kharkiv and others have denounced “massive” damage.

Ukraine’s military commander said air defense missiles had downed 60 of 76 missiles fired at critical infrastructure. An air force spokesman said Russian forces flew fighter jets into the vicinity of Ukraine in an attempt to disrupt air defenses.

Electricity company Uquenergo has warned that repairs will take longer than before and that restoring power will take longer. Energy Minister Harshchenko told state television that he had confirmed damage to about nine power plants, adding, “At the moment, we are still confirming the extent of the damage.”

A Reuters reporter confirmed at least three explosions in Kiev. Air defense systems have been activated throughout Ukraine. The railway company said many lines were without electricity.

Tymoshenko, deputy head of the president’s office, said houses in the central area of Kriby-Irif were damaged and people could be trapped under the rubble.

In a Telegram post, Tymoshenko urged citizens not to ignore the warning and to stay in the shelter.

Officials in the southeastern province of Zaporozhye are working to repair infrastructure damaged by the Russian attack but have warned that blackouts could occur again.

“There have been 15 Russian missile impacts,” the Zaporozhye Star region governor said on Telegram, urging citizens to prepare for temporary restrictions while damaged infrastructure is restored.

Energy company DTEK said it had already cut power to Kiev to carry out repairs.

Kiev officials said it was one of the biggest rocket attacks since the invasion began in February.

“Russia’s goal is to put the Ukrainian people under constant pressure, force them to evacuate on a daily basis and make them uncomfortable with blackouts and water outages,” Sviridenko said in a Facebook post. We will win.”
