PHOENIX – Lori Vallow Daybell, already serving life sentences for multiple murders, was ordered Friday to pay nearly $12,000 in restitution to Kay Woodcock, the former mother-in-law of her deceased husband, Chad Daybell. The amount, totaling $11,747.99, is intended to reimburse woodcock for travel, lodging, counseling, and other expenses incurred during the high-profile case.Maricopa County Prosecuting attorney Treena Kay stated the restitution covers Woodcock’s expenses. Daybell, who did not contest the order, preemptively stipulated to the amount, stating her previous trials indicated the judge would likely order it regardless.
“Based on how my trials were conducted, and since experience tells me that – regardless of what I say or what anyone else says – you’re going to order it, I’m willing to stipulate today,” Daybell told Judge Jennifer beresky.
The order comes after juries found Daybell guilty of conspiracy to commit the murder of Vallow’s former husband, Charles Vallow, in June, and conspiracy to commit the murder of Brandon Boudreaux, her former nephew-in-law, in a separate Arizona trial. In July, Beresky sentenced Daybell to life in prison and over $534,000 in fines and fees. The judge emphasized restitution takes precedence over other financial penalties and will be deducted from Daybell’s prison account at the maximum allowable rate.
Daybell is also serving a life sentence in Idaho for the deaths of her children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan, and for conspiring to murder Tammy Daybell, Chad Daybell’s first wife.
During the hearing, Beresky asked Daybell if she had consumed any drugs, medication, or alcohol in the past 24 hours.Daybell responded irritably, questioning whether the judge believed she had access to such substances while incarcerated. “Have I been on any drugs, Your Honor? Is that what you are asking? Is Your honor aware that I am in prison? I have no access to any of those things, so the answer is no.No, I have not.”
When asked if anyone had coerced her decision regarding restitution, Daybell replied, “Only my trials, Your Honor, coerced me.”
Following the hearing, Woodcock told EastIdahoNews.com that Daybell “was just looking for her spotlight as usual. She wasted everybody’s time.”
Additional restitution to Boudreaux is still being calculated, according to Kay.
