Trump’s UN Speech: Criticism of Palestinian Recognition and Overtime

Trump Criticizes UN, Claims Nobel Peace Prize Merit, and Laments Facility Issues During UNGA Address

NEW YORK – former U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a pointed critique of⁢ the United Nations during his appearance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this week, questioning its effectiveness in achieving world peace and asserting his own accomplishments warrant a Nobel Peace Prize. He also voiced frustration over logistical problems at UN headquarters, including a‌ malfunctioning teleprompter and a broken elevator.

Trump, ⁤speaking on ⁣Tuesday, condemned recent moves⁣ toward recognizing Palestinian statehood, ⁤echoing sentiments reported by CNN International on Wednesday (September 24th). He stated that ⁢potential for resolution exists, but current diplomatic efforts are insufficient. “They have extraordinary potential, but moast have not been able to achieve that potential,” Trump said, adding,”At least for now, they seem to only write a firm letter and ⁤have never followed up. It is indeed‍ just nonsense, and nonsense does not complete the war.⁤ The only one that can complete the war and war is action.” He further implied the UN has failed in its core mission of preventing ‍conflict.

According to a report by Al Jazeera,‍ Trump highlighted his own record, suggesting he deserves recognition for his peace-making efforts. “It is unfortunate that I have‌ to do these things, instead of the United Nations who do it, and regrettably, in all‌ cases, the United Nations did not even try to ‌help in anything,” he stated. He contrasted his perceived successes with the UN’s inaction, claiming,”the United Nations did not exist⁣ for us.”

Beyond policy critiques, ‌Trump also drew attention to the physical conditions at ⁣UN headquarters.‍ “These are the two things that I got from‌ the United Nations, ⁤a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,” he remarked, adding he was‍ preoccupied with “saving millions of lives” and “stopping these wars” at the‌ time. ⁣His UNGA appearance ‌reportedly extended almost an hour beyond the scheduled time.

US-China Power Shift: Portugal’s Shifting Alliances & Economic Concerns

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 24, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Former Stellantis CEO Warns Portugal of Diminished‌ US Reliability, Predicts Shift Towards china

Carlos Tavares, former CEO of Stellantis, asserted ⁣that Portugal can no longer depend on the United States as a reliable partner, speaking at a conference marking the ninth ‍anniversary of Jornal Económico held at Aese Business School in Lisbon on⁣ Tuesday. Tavares ‌characterized the US as increasingly “transactional” despite its power.

He argued‍ that current US policy is⁤ inadvertently accelerating a global alignment with China, ‍perhaps leading ‍to its future dominance. According to tavares, the ‍US, already the “most powerful and ‍richest” nation, is pursuing further power‌ and wealth, driving countries away and into China’s sphere of influence. He specifically linked this shift to a potential “new world order” with Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

Tavares attributed perceived US commercial imbalances not to unfair trade practices, but to “poor productivity and worse quality in the physical goods manufacturing industry” within the US. He also criticized the US role within NATO,suggesting it ⁢primarily serves to promote US weapons exports to Europe.

the former CEO was critical of the Paris climate agreement, describing it as an example of Western decline, arguing it ⁤unfairly demanded⁣ developing nations halt their progress while the West, having “destroyed the planet” through its own⁤ development, imposed restrictions. ⁤He noted the diminishing discussion surrounding global warming ‍in the political arena.

Tavares also expressed concern over a ⁤”delay in political vision” within the European Union, notably regarding the lack of a‌ unified political destiny and‌ the resulting internal rivalries between France, Germany, and Italy. He concluded by stating the Western world must acknowledge its decline‌ and address issues of “laziness” and “cancer bureaucracy” to remain competitive in a world of stagnant GDP growth.

UK Announces Recognition of Palestinian State Amid Gaza Conflict

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 21, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

UK Formally ⁢Recognizes Palestinian Statehood Amidst Escalating Conflict

The United Kingdom has officially recognized the State of Palestine, joining Canada and Australia in a move occurring⁢ shortly ⁣before the 80th session ⁤of the ‍united Nations General Assembly. This decision, ⁤announced recently, underscores the UK’s commitment to‍ a two-state solution and ⁤affirms the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, according‍ to Foreign Secretary Yvette⁢ Cooper.

The recognition‌ arrives as the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate dramatically. The Israeli military’s ongoing operations in Gaza City, aimed at seizing control,⁤ are accompanied by widespread destruction, displacement, and a confirmed famine affecting the enclave’s population.

Simultaneously, ⁤the occupied West Bank is experiencing daily Israeli military raids⁢ and attacks by settlers. Israel is also advancing plans for annexation of Palestinian territory, with some officials openly discussing actions intended to preclude the establishment of‌ a contiguous Palestinian state with East Jerusalem⁢ as it’s capital.

While acknowledging the symbolic ‍importance of the decision, British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy emphasized that recognizing a Palestinian state will not ‍instantly create one. He reiterated the government’s view that‍ recognition must be integrated into⁢ a broader,⁤ long-stalled peace process.

The Israeli government has strongly condemned the UK’s decision, along with the recognition extended by over 75 percent of UN member states, characterizing it as a reward for terrorism. US President Donald⁤ Trump also voiced his⁢ disagreement with the move during ⁢a recent visit to ⁣the UK.

Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister varsen Aghabekian Shahin welcomed the recognition as a⁤ message of hope for ⁢a free, self-reliant, and sovereign Palestinian ⁣state. She asserted that the move challenges Israel’s ‍claims of sovereignty over Palestinian territories and described israel’s actions as a “systematic assault” on Palestinian existence, culture, ‌and future.

A summit co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia⁤ is scheduled to take place in New ⁢York at the⁤ UN, focusing on advancing a‌ two-state solution.

Analysts, such as Mohamad Elmasry of the Doha ⁢Institute for Graduate‌ Studies, ‌suggest that Western countries might potentially be motivated by public and international pressure ⁣to ⁢act, but question whether these symbolic gestures will translate into substantive action to address the ongoing crisis, notably the situation in Gaza. Despite the recognition, all Palestinian territory remains under Israeli military occupation, with Israel ⁤continuing to assert ‌its right to self-defense.

Portugal Recognizes Palestinian Statehood Amid UN Recognition Push

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 20, 2025

Portugal to Formally⁢ Recognise Palestinian State at UNGA Amidst Growing International Momentum

NEW YORK – Portugal will formally recognize a Palestinian state at the ⁤United Nations‌ General Assembly (UNGA) next week, joining a wave of nations shifting their positions on the decades-long Israel-Palestine conflict. The decision, confirmed by a Friday vote where Portugal was among 145 countries supporting a resolution enabling Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the UNGA via video link following a US visa ⁣denial, ⁣underscores increasing international pressure for a two-state ⁢solution.

Five countries – nauru, ‌palau, Paraguay, Israel, and the United States – voted against the resolution allowing Abbas’s address, with six abstaining.

Portugal’s move aligns with⁣ recent announcements from Canada and ⁢the United Kingdom, both ‌of which have indicated their intention to recognize Palestinian statehood.‍ France will also recognize the State of Palestine at⁣ a high-level meeting it is co-organizing with Saudi arabia in New York on Monday.

These nations will add to the 147 countries, representing 75‌ percent of UN members, that had already⁣ recognized Palestinian statehood ‌as of ⁤April 2025.

The growing recognition comes despite strong ‍criticism from the‌ US and Israel.⁣ US ‍Secretary of State Marco Rubio described france’s proclamation ‌as a “reckless decision” that “only serves Hamas propaganda.” Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich warned last year that a new Israeli settlement would be established ⁣in the occupied west Bank for every ⁢country that recognizes‌ Palestine.

luxembourg is also considering recognizing Palestinian statehood and potentially⁣ imposing sanctions against Israel, according to prime Minister⁣ Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel. UN ⁢Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian ‌territory, Francesca Albanese, has called for broader measures, including sanctions and an arms embargo on‌ Israel, to end ⁤the war in Gaza.

The move towards⁤ recognition echoes the UNGA’s 1947⁣ plan to partition Palestine,⁢ which proposed allocating⁣ 45 percent of the land to an Arab state. Though, at that time, the UNGA consisted⁣ of only 57 member states, with⁤ many countries still under colonial rule and unable to participate in the vote.

‘The girl is dead…pigs eat human flesh’: Brueckner’s shock outburst at seeing Madeleine McCann on TV revealed in new doc

Madeleine McCann⁣ Suspect Admitted “The Girl is Dead…Pigs Eat Human Flesh” After Seeing TV Coverage, New⁤ Documentary Reveals

LAGOS, portugal – Christian‍ Brueckner, the prime suspect in the disappearance of madeleine McCann, made a chilling admission to ⁤a friend years after the three-year-old vanished, stating, “The ⁤girl is dead…pigs eat human flesh,” according⁤ to revelations in a new documentary series. The outburst, recounted by Brueckner’s former associate, Friedrich Wohlwend, offers a disturbing glimpse ‍into the suspect’s mindset and comes as investigators continue to pursue leads in the case, nearly 17 years after Madeleine disappeared from her family’s holiday ⁣apartment in Praia da luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.

The documentary, set to air this week, details Wohlwend’s account of Brueckner’s reaction while watching a television report about Madeleine McCann. This startling‌ confession, combined with ongoing investigative⁢ efforts, underscores the enduring hope for⁣ answers and the potential for a ⁣breakthrough ⁣in‌ one of the most high-profile missing-person cases in history. The revelation arrives as Portuguese authorities, aided by British and German investigators, continue to meticulously examine evidence and pursue all possible avenues for establishing the truth.

The inquiry⁢ into⁣ Madeleine’s disappearance⁣ has spanned decades and multiple countries, fueled by unwavering efforts from her parents, Kate⁢ and Gerry McCann, and law enforcement agencies.British police launched their own investigation, Operation Grange, in ⁤2011, and have received substantial funding over the years ‌to continue the search. From April 2017 ‌to September 2017, the probe continued, and in ‌September 2017, British police were granted £154,000 to keep the investigation going⁤ until ⁤March 2018. Further ‌funding rounds followed ⁣in May 2018 (£150,000), November 2018 (£150,000),‍ and June 2019 ⁢(£300,000).

The focus of the investigation shifted considerably in June⁢ 2020 with the identification⁣ of Christian Brueckner as a prime‍ suspect. Brueckner, a German national ⁤with a history of sex offenses, was ⁢living in the Algarve region of Portugal at the⁢ time⁣ of Madeleine’s disappearance. Investigators believe he ⁤may have been involved in ⁤her abduction and possible murder.

In November ‍2017, police investigating the case⁢ traveled to Bulgaria in ‍search of ⁢potential associates. In November 2018, investigators⁢ re-examined the theory that Madeleine may have wandered from‍ the apartment herself. Portuguese police⁤ began ‍probing a “new clue and suspect” in June 2019, following discussions with ⁤British officers.

Brueckner was formally made an “Arguido” – a formal suspect – in April⁣ 2022. Most recently, in May 2023, police searched a remote ⁢Algarve reservoir that Brueckner had reportedly referred to as ⁢his⁤ “little paradise.” The search yielded no conclusive evidence, but investigators remain committed ⁢to pursuing‍ all leads. The documentary’s revelations regarding⁤ Brueckner’s chilling outburst are expected to intensify scrutiny of the suspect and potentially unlock new lines of inquiry in the ongoing investigation.

Portugal’s Kelp Forests: A Major Carbon Storage Discovery

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor September 16, 2025
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Portugal‘s Kelp Forests⁣ Revealed as Critically important Carbon Stores

Recent research has quantified the considerable carbon storage capacity of kelp‍ forests along the northern coast of Portugal, highlighting their critical role in climate mitigation. ‍A study co-led by francisco Arenas ⁣of CIIMAR, published recently,⁤ represents the first quantitative analysis of carbon reserves within ‌these habitats, ⁤noting their⁣ “unique conditions for their development, and represent the southernmost‍ frontier for some⁤ of the species found‍ here.”

The comprehensive field⁤ research involved measuring the distribution, biomass density, growth patterns, and⁢ carbon composition of the kelp⁣ forests. The findings demonstrate these ecosystems store approximately 16.48 gigagrams ‌(gg) of carbon across 5,189 hectares – an area equivalent to over 5,000 football fields. This represents 14 per cent of‍ Portugal’s documented blue⁤ carbon inventory, previously focused on salt marshes and seagrass meadows.

“It was the first assessment of the value of blue carbon associated wiht kelp forests in Portugal,” stated Arenas. Despite their relatively modest global ⁢footprint, these⁣ seaweed forests can capture ‍carbon on a scale comparable to, or exceeding, more extensive ecosystems. The study estimates they capture one-third of all carbon ⁤sequestered annually by Portugal’s marine plant habitats.

However, these valuable ecosystems are increasingly threatened by⁢ climate change. Scientists have detected a process of “tropicalisation” in Portuguese waters, driven by⁣ warming sea ‍temperatures, which allows tropical and subtropical species to expand their range. This poses a risk to⁣ the⁣ biodiversity and‍ ecological ‌services provided by the kelp forests, including their ability ⁢to capture and store carbon. ⁣

Arenas emphasized that these forests are “often unknown and ⁤undervalued, despite their extremely crucial‍ ecological and economic value on the north coast‌ of Portugal.”⁢

The research team‍ advocates ‌for the incorporation of kelp ⁢forests into marine protection and blue carbon frameworks at both national and international levels. ⁣They propose targeted policies for surveillance, protection, and potential restoration of these zones, particularly in light ⁤of⁣ the early stages of implementation⁣ of the European Union’s Nature Restoration Law. “With the European Union’s nature restoration Law in it’s early⁣ stages of implementation, it is urgent to develop and implement effective ecological restoration techniques, particularly ‌in habitats that are ‌highly vulnerable ‌but⁣ also have high potential⁢ for providing ecosystem services, such as marine forests,” Arenas concluded.
