Labubu, โthe Collectible Monster, Heads to hollywood with Sony
sony Picturesโ has acquired the rights to develop a featureโข film based โon Labubu,โ the popular character from โthe collectible toy series “The Monsters.” The deal brings the globally recognized figurine sensationโ to โขthe big screen, though the format – whetherโฃ fully animated or a live-action/CGI hybrid similar to Sonic theโค Hedgehog – remains undecided.
Created by โคHongโ Kong-born,European-basedโค artist Kasing โLung in 2015,Labubu originatedโ in three picture books inspired by Norse mythology.Lung โคpopulated this fairytale worldโ with a cast of magical characters, both good and evil, collectively known asโ “The Monsters.” Labubu, distinguished by his pointed ears and โขjagged teeth, isโข described as kind-hearted but prone to unintentionally causing chaos despite his โคhelpful intentions.
The Labubu figures โฃwere โคinitially released by How2Work before the brand was acquiredโฃ by Pop Mart in 2019. Pop Mart launched the series, and its popularity quickly exploded, first in Southeast Asia and now worldwide,โฃ fueled by โcollectible boxes containing โplush toys, figures, and expanding merchandise lines.the character’s cultural impact hasโข grown to โthe point of being parodied in the โฃfilmโ south Park.
Alongside Labubu, “The Monsters” series includes characters Zimomo โฃ(the leader), Mokoko, and Tycoco.โข
As of now, no producer, director, or screenwriter has been attached to the project. Fans will have to await further announcements regarding the film’s advancement.
