Coimbatore, India – A 28-year-old woman was murdered in Coimbatore, India, and her husband allegedly shared a photograph of her body on his WhatsApp status before police arrived, authorities confirmed.The incident highlights the escalating nature of domestic violence and the disturbing use of social media in connection with violent crimes.
The victim has been identified as B. Sripriya. Her estranged husband, S.Balamurugan, is in police custody and is accused of fatally attacking her with a sickle at a women’s hostel near Gandhipuram. According to police reports, Balamurugan uploaded a photo with his wife’s body to his WhatsApp status, accompanied by a message alleging infidelity. Residents of the hostel alerted authorities after the attack, and Balamurugan was apprehended at the scene.
The couple had separated last year following a domestic dispute, with Sripriya moving to Coimbatore from Tirunelveli with their two children, initially residing with her mother. After a disagreement with her mother,Sripriya moved to the women’s hostel while leaving her children in her mother’s care. Police state Balamurugan reportedly accused Sripriya of having an affair with a relative and confronted her at the hostel.
Investigators say an argument escalated, leading Balamurugan to attack Sripriya with a sickle in the hostel’s waiting room. A formal case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
