A seventh-grade student at Coronado Middle School was hospitalized Tuesday morning โafter being stabbed by a โclassmate, according to the Coronado Police Department. The incident occurredโ around 10:20 a.m. in the school library during a โclass break.
The female studentโ was stabbed twice with a pocket knife during an argument with a male classmate, police said. She was transported to Rady ChildrenS Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Theโข male student is currently in police custody. this incident raises concerns about school safety and the well-being of students within the Coronado Unified โschool District, prompting an ongoing examination and โa review of security protocols.
Coronado Police Department officers responded to the school,located at 550 F Avenue,after receiving reports of the stabbing. Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses toโฃ determine the circumstances leading up to the attack.
Authorities stated there wasโ no ongoing โคthreat to โคthe broader campus, and the schoolโ was not placed on lockdown. However, officers conductedโ a security sweep โข”out of an abundance of caution.” The police departmentโ has not released the names of โeither student, citing thier ages.
