Googleโฃ has enabled directโ data โขexchange betweenโ iPhone adn Androidโ smartphones through an updated versionโข ofโ its file-sharing feature, previously known as Nearby Share โand Swift Share. The functionality, now simply calledโข “Quick Share,” allows users of both operating systems to seamlessly โtransfer photos, videos, and other files without โrelying on third-party apps or cloud โservices.
This marks a notable โstep toward interoperability between the twoโข dominant mobile platforms, addressingโฃ a long-standing user frustration. โWhileโ Apple’s AirDrop has long facilitated easy โคfile sharing within the Apple ecosystem,โข cross-platform transfers have typically requiredโ email, messaging apps, or โฃcloud storage. Quick Share โaims to provide a more direct and convenient alternative, perhaps streamlining collaboration and content sharing for the โbillionsโ of iPhoneโค and Android users worldwide. Google first began renaming the feature earlier this year, evolving from “Nearby Share”โฃ to “Quick Share from Google”โค and finaly to “Quick Share.”
The feature โutilizes Bluetooth to โestablish a connection and then employs โWi-fi Direct for faster data transfer.According to โa reportโข from Heise Online, it โขremainsโข unclear whether โQuick Share will eventually extend compatibility to other Apple โขdevices like MacBooks. The update isโ currently โrolling out and is expected toโข be โwidely โคavailable in the coming weeks.
