::vtol:: Constructs ⁣Kinetic Sculptures, Robotics, and Interactive ⁢Installations

Dmitry Morozov, known as ::vtol::, develops technology-based installations and kinetic sculptures that combine robotics, sound, coding, and interactive ‌systems. The Moscow-born, Ljubljana-based transdisciplinary artist and researcher creates electronic installations that react and respond to environmental changes and⁤ the proximity of viewers. Thes works ⁣include ⁢robotic systems, sound generators,‌ and mechanical devices‌ that operate independently once activated, as showcased in his recent projects presented at Sónar+D between June 12th and 14th, 2024, where World Today News interviewed the artist. In a ⁣recent interview with Designboom, ::vtol:: shares that he creates ‌entities with agency rather than⁢ just tools. ⁤ “Ultimately,I perceive my works as participants in a gigantic performance called technological art. This kind of art is⁣ very ephemeral,as the lifespan of any object is quite limited-either the electronics will break down, the software will be updated,or the mechanics will fail,” he explains.

::vtol:: constructs ⁣his kinetic sculptures using microcontrollers that ‌process sensor data and control mechanics. These systems ‍respond to sound, motion,or other environmental inputs, exhibiting unpredictable behaviors. He‌ applies engineering principles and⁢ treats electronic components as⁤ sculptural materials.

The artist, whose past works include the tattoo-based instrument Reading My Body ⁢ and the⁣ wearable mask organ‌ Last Breath, emphasizes the importance of⁣ creating interactive experiences. His ⁤work explores the intersection of art, technology, and human⁢ interaction, ofen resulting in‍ thought-provoking and visually stunning installations.Key Takeaways:

Interactive Art: ::vtol::’s‌ installations are designed to react to ‍their environment and the people ⁢who interact with them.
Technology & Sculpture: He seamlessly blends engineering and artistic principles, using technology‌ as a medium⁤ for sculptural expression.
Ephemeral Nature: The artist acknowledges the temporary nature of his work, embracing the inevitable‌ decay of technology. Agency & Performance: ⁢::vtol:: views his creations as active participants in a larger artistic ⁢performance.

SEO Considerations:

modular fairphone gen 6 features changeable backplates

Fairphone Gen 6: Modular Design for Longevity

The new Fairphone Gen 6 is making waves with its commitment to repairability and sustainability. This innovative smartphone boasts user-replaceable components and a design that prioritizes longevity over planned obsolescence, offering a refreshing alternative in today’s tech landscape.

Customizable Backplates for a Unique Experience

The Fairphone Gen 6 has interchangeable backplates, allowing users to customize their device with accessories. These integrated accessories include a card holder, lanyard, finger loop, and protective case. Owners can easily swap these backplates by unscrewing two small bolts, providing a personalized and functional experience.

The design emphasizes ease of repair. Components are not glued together, allowing users to replace parts in minutes. This approach helps extend the device’s lifespan, unlike many modern phones where repairs are complex and often impossible. The battery is also easily removable.

“Keep it going for years,”

—Fairphone Brand

According to a 2024 report from the Environmental Protection Agency, Americans throw away roughly 150 million phones per year, highlighting the need for more sustainable technology like the Fairphone Gen 6 (EPA 2024).

Sustainable Materials and Features

The Fairphone Gen 6 uses over 50 percent fair and recycled materials. These include aluminum, copper, steel, tin, indium, magnesium, nickel, plastics, rare earths, zinc, fair trade gold, fairmined silver, cobalt, and tungsten. The phone’s design is minimalist, with cameras embedded into the device.

The device features a lime-colored switch that activates a monochromatic display, which shows essential apps, designed to reduce screen time. The phone has an IP55 rating for water resistance and has undergone military-grade drop testing. Changeable backplates are sold separately.
