Baltimore, MD – August 24, 2025 – Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka of Human Powered Health secured a photo-finish victory at the 2025 Maryland Cycling Classic Women, edging out Krista Doebel-Hickok of EF Education-Cannondale in a thrilling sprint to the line. The race concluded after a challenging circuit around Baltimore.
Earlier in the race, Henrietta Christie earned the overall mountains classification after repeatedly going clear, including a sustained effort alongside Danique Hengeveld.Andrea cyr won the intermediate sprint on the bell lap.
A breakaway group initially formed with Skalniak, Jackson, Langley, and Marta jaskulska, later joined by Emond. Natalie Quinn attempted to bridge the gap but was unable to join the leading quintet. Jaskulska was the first to be dropped on the final climb, leaving Skalniak, Jackson, Langley, and Emond to contest the win.
EF Education-Cannondale launched repeated attacks in the closing kilometers, with Emond and Jackson attempting to disrupt the lead group, but Skalniak and Langley consistently responded. Langley launched a final attack before the kilometer mark, which Emond neutralized, setting up a tactical sprint. Skalniak initiated the sprint, with Jackson challenging in the final meters, but Skalniak held on for the win.”I’m so happy to finally get this first win of the season,” Skalniak said. “Ther were ups and downs this year, but we rode so well as a team.I even had a flat tire earlier, and my teammates waited for me. In the final, EF were attacking me all the time, but I kept believing in the sprint. I’m really proud to take this victory.”
Jackson expressed disappointment with the result, stating, “It was a fair and square sprint. I was strong, but I had a lot to manage with the moves. We rode aggressively, but I just couldn’t come past in the sprint.”
Emond acknowledged the team’s strategy, saying, “The main goal was to have numbers in the final, and we did that. We tried to attack until the end, but it didn’t come off. We can still be proud of how we raced.”
Langley, who played a key role in the early attacks, added, ”I gave it everything out there. To be part of the final four and to fight for the win here in Baltimore is special.”
