1860 Munich President Mang Cites Neglect as Key Factor in Werner,Glöckner Departures
Munich – TSV 1860 Munich President Michael mang defended the recent dismissals of managing director Christian Werner and head coach Patrick Glöckner, stating a pattern of “neglect” across the club contributed to the decisions.the comments came during a press conference addressing the notable restructuring underway at the historic football club.
Mang emphasized the separations weren’t solely about on-field performance, but encompassed a broader assessment of the club’s leadership and direction. “It’s not just about the team, it’s about the entire club, the way the club leads,” Mang explained. “We put a lot on the boys, you just neglected. Many puzzle stones came together, mosaic stones came together and that has caused us to make this decision.” He indicated Werner’s departure was “indicated” and followed extensive internal and external discussions, including input from the club’s co-shareholder.
The dismissal of coach Glöckner followed poor results and a perceived lack of progress. “There were simply not the results, but also the way,” Mang said, adding the decision to make a change after the Aue game was “a right decision for us.” He reported the team remains “intact, is hot, hungry, it wants to go forward.”
As part of a complete organizational overhaul, 1860 Munich plans to appoint a commercial manager focused on finances and licensing, a sports director, and a technical director to oversee youth development – a core tenet of the club’s identity.
Looking ahead, Mang outlined the profile of the new head coach, stating they must be a “seasoned professional” familiar with the third division and Bundesliga, with a key emphasis on integrating youth players. While rumors surrounding Thomas Wörle have surfaced, Mang declined to comment on specific candidates.
