No Gown? For This Artist Attending Venice Film Festival 2025, That’s No Problem-a Bedsheet Will Do
VENICE, ITALY – A swift act of theft couldn’t stop Italian artist and pharmacist Elda Calabrese from making a statement at the Venice Film Festival 2025. After her suitcase was stolen en route to the festival, Calabrese improvised a red carpet look using the most readily available material: her hotel bedsheet.
Calabrese, who had been anticipating the event for a month, detailed the ordeal in a recent Instagram post. Arriving by train the day before the festival, she discovered her luggage had been snatched, leaving her without the outfit she’d prepared. “I decided to unleash my creativity by dressing myself directly with my bed sheet and even creating a train,” she wrote, (translated from Italian). She fashioned a draped neckline, cinched her waist with a belt, and even playfully scribbled “ROBBED” on the makeshift train of her gown.
The resourceful artist’s impromptu design garnered notable attention. “I was incredulous that I received so many compliments on an outfit that didn’t actually exist,” Calabrese shared. She jokingly noted she was fortunate the thief hadn’t attempted to remove her boots.
Addressing the perpetrator directly, Calabrese offered a wry warning: “Enjoy my clothes and jewelry, but remember, karma is always watching.” The story originated in Vanity Fair Italia.
