NASA Offers Public a Chanceโ to Send Names to the Moon on Artemis II Mission
WASHINGTON – Space โคenthusiastsโ can symbolically join NASA’s upcoming Artemis II โฃmission, the first crewed flight ofโ the Artemis program, by โฃsubmitting theirโ names to travel aboard the Orion spacecraft. The agency announced today an chance for the public to participate in theโข historic mission, โscheduled for launch no later than 2026.
The “Send Your Name with Artemis II” initiative will embed submitted names on aโฃ memoryโ card that will fly on the spacecraft as it loops โaroundโ the moon and returns to earth. Thisโค 10-day mission will serve asโ a critical test โคflight โfor systems andโ equipment destined for future โคdeep space exploration, including eventual โคmissionsโ to Mars.
during the flight, Orion will โinitially enter an elliptical orbit rangingโ from โ185 โขto 2,250 kilometers in altitude. It will โคthen transition to a wider orbit,โ completing a circuit approximately every 23.5โ hours at distances varying between 185 and 74,000 โkilometers from Earth.
The four-member crew includes NASA astronauts โReid โฃWiseman, Victor Glover,โฃ andโค Christina โKoch, โalongside Canadian Space โขAgency astronaut Jeremyโ Hansen.
“It is anโ opportunity to inspire people from all over theโฃ worldโข and give themโ the possibility of accompanying us whileโ we open theโ way to human missions farther in โฃspace,” โคsaid Lori Glaze, NASA’s interim associate administrator for Exploration Systems Development Missions.
Participants who submit their names will recieve a digital boarding โpass as a โsouvenir, available for download in both Spanishโข and English. Submissions are being accepted thru the official NASA website: โ https://www3.nasa.gov/envia-tu-nombre-con-artemis/ โฃ or โ https://www3.nasa.gov/send-your-name-with-artemis/.
Artemis II represents โa pivotal stepโฃ in NASA’s long-term goal of establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon and preparing for future crewed โขmissions to Mars.
