Government of Canada to Invest in Ontario‘s Response to Toxic Drug and Overdose Crisis
TORONTO, ON - October 30, 2025 – The Government of Canada will announce new funding aimed at bolstering Ontario’s efforts to combat the escalating toxic drug and overdose crisis. Parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Health,Maggie Chi,will deliver the declaration on behalf of the honourable Marjorie Michel,Minister of Health,detailing investments from the Emergency Treatment Fund and the Substance Use and Addictions Programme.
The announcement comes as Ontario, like many provinces across Canada, continues to grapple with a surge in overdose deaths linked to increasingly toxic illicit drug supplies. This funding is intended to expand access to vital treatment services, harm reduction initiatives, and support for individuals and communities impacted by substance use. The investments represent a critical step in addressing the ongoing public health emergency and saving lives.
