ColorOS 17 & OxygenOS 17: Leaked Features & Performance Improvements

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor February 19, 2026
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Leaks originating from Telegram suggest upcoming improvements to Oppo and OnePlus’s custom Android skins, ColorOS 17 and OxygenOS 17, respectively. The anticipated updates, based on Android 17, focus on performance enhancements, refined animations, and camera improvements, according to reports first noted by Android Headlines.

Both ColorOS 17 and OxygenOS 17 are expected to feature optimized CPU resource management, aiming for a boost in overall performance. The leaked information indicates better memory management will also be implemented, leading to quicker application launches and a reduction in micro-stutters. Multitasking capabilities are also slated for improvement, with the potential for increased app retention in the background.

Software optimizations targeting battery life are also reportedly in development, though specific details remain unconfirmed. The timing of these updates coincides with Google’s release of the Android 17 beta, suggesting a coordinated rollout strategy for Oppo and OnePlus devices.

Beyond performance, the new skins are expected to deliver smoother, more consistent system-wide animations and a reduction in frame drops throughout the user interface. Improvements to the camera application are also highlighted, with a focus on smoother zoom transitions during photo and video capture, and reduced lag during continuous zoom operations.

Oppo’s ColorOS 16, based on Android 16, is currently rolling out globally to devices including the Locate X8 and N3 series, bringing with it smoother animations, enhanced performance, and new AI tools, according to Gadgets360. OnePlus’s OxygenOS 16, also based on Android 16, is available for models like the OnePlus 13 and Open, introducing a translucent design, increased customization options, and enhanced AI features.

Currently, there is no confirmed release timeline for ColorOS 17 or OxygenOS 17. Though, it is anticipated that the updates will become available for compatible devices following the stable release of Android 17. As the information is based on a leak, its accuracy remains subject to official confirmation from Oppo, and OnePlus.

OnePlus and Oppo have recently begun using dynamic download links for OTA updates, which expire approximately 10 minutes after generation, according to a post on XDA Forums. This change impacts the sharing of update links online, requiring users to obtain fresh links for installation.

OnePlus Reportedly Testing 240Hz Display for Future Flagship, Alongside massive Battery and Camera Upgrades

OnePlus is consistently pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology, and the latest reports suggest the company is poised to deliver even more impressive advancements with its next flagship device.Building on the 165Hz refresh rate introduced with the upcoming OnePlus 15, leaks indicate OnePlus is actively testing a blazing-fast 240Hz display manufactured by BOE. This potential upgrade, coupled with rumors of a ample 9,000mAh battery and a cutting-edge 200MP periscope telephoto camera, points towards a significant leap forward for the brand in 2026.

The Pursuit of Ultra-Smooth Visuals: A 240Hz Display

The current standard for high-end smartphones is a 120Hz refresh rate, offering a noticeably smoother experience compared to customary 60Hz displays. The OnePlus 15 is already elevating this with a 165Hz panel. However, a jump to 240Hz represents a further refinement, promising an even more fluid and responsive visual experience. This is particularly beneficial for demanding applications like gaming and fast-paced scrolling, reducing motion blur and enhancing clarity.https://x.com/OnePlusClub/status/2014659151943893422

Refresh rate, measured in Hertz (Hz), refers to how many times per second a display redraws the image. A higher refresh rate translates to smoother animations, reduced eye strain, and a more responsive feel. While the benefits are most apparent in fast-moving content, even everyday tasks like navigating the user interface can feel more polished and enjoyable.

BOE, a major Chinese display manufacturer, is a key player in the OLED display market and has been steadily increasing its presence in the smartphone industry. Their involvement suggests OnePlus is prioritizing cutting-edge display technology and seeking a reliable partner to deliver it.However, it’s crucial to remember that testing a component doesn’t guarantee its inclusion in a final product.

OnePlus 16: The Likely Candidate

While the exact device being tested remains unconfirmed, speculation strongly points towards the OnePlus 16, expected to launch in 2026. Several sources suggest the OnePlus 16 will be the recipient of these significant upgrades. [https://www.androidheadlines.com/2026/0
