SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Aโ Special Marine Warningโ is in effect for Sarasota and Gulf waters untill 3:45 p.m.on Tuesday, September 9, as โa severe thunderstorm threatens to produce waterspouts.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bayโค Ruskin office reported radar detectingโค the storm at 2:59 p.m., locatedโ approximately 7โค nautical miles southwest of Venice Inlet and moving east at 10 knots.
Waterspouts pose a significantโข danger to mariners, capable of capsizing vessels, causing damage, andโฃ generating unexpectedly large waves. โThe NWSโ advisesโฃ boaters to seekโ secure locationsโฃ and wear life jackets. Theโฃ storm โขalso carries the risk of wind gusts exceeding โค34 knots, increased wave โheights, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.
The warning area includes Gasparillaโข Island,โข Englewood, โขFort Myers Beach, Venice Inlet, Manasota Key, Siesta Key, Venice, Big Sarasota Pass, Lynnโ Silvertooth Reef, โcaptiva, Sanibel, and Don pedro Island, as well as numerous โoffshore reefs.
