Lubbock Banking โฃand Law Leader Roger Key Remembered
Roger Key, a prominent figure in Lubbock’s legal and banking communities and a dedicated alumnus of the Texas โtech University School of Law,โ has passed away. He was a member of the well-known Keyโข and Maedgen families and leaves behind a legacy of service to both the city and his alma mater.
Key graduated from โคCoronado High School in 1969 and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin before returning to Lubbock to attend Texasโข Tech Law.โ He subsequently built a successful career spanning both banking and law.
A โขpartner at key, Terrell and Seger LLP, Key โขalso served โas chairman of the board of Lubbock National Bank, an institution founded in 1917 by his grandfather, Charles ernest Maedgen Sr. He was alsoโฃ involved atโ the state level, โฃserving โon the State Bar of Texas’ board of directors.

Key and โhis wife, Ann, โฃwere honoredโข by the Texasโ Tech School of Law in 2009 for their distinguished service. A profile on the law school’s website described him as aโฃ highly esteemed โคattorney knownโข for his legal expertise andโ dedication to his clients. The profile highlighted his understanding of the legal system,โ his โขcompassionateโฃ approach toโฃ cases, and his commitment to protecting his clients’โ rights.
Beyond his professional life, Key was โคan active member ofโ the Lubbock legal community, participating in professional associations, community organizations, and pro โbono initiatives.
