German Green Bay Packers fan shares excitement for first NFL game in Frankfurt

From a distance, Alexander Schwarz looks like cheese – or at least his head. The triangular Emmentaler hat is recognized by fans of the Green Bay Packers from the US state of Wisconsin, who play in the National Football League (NFL). Black wears the green jersey with the number 23 of cornerback Jaire Alexander, but it was the performance of quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a game six years ago that got the Frankfurt native excited about American football. The fact that the NFL is coming to Frankfurt for the first time is an absolute highlight for the member of the German Green Bay Packers fan club. “This is my home game,” says the Frankfurter as he poses next to a huge football helmet on the Roßmarkt. Between the Hauptwache and the Roßmarkt, the National Football League (NFL) is setting up an adventure world with game stations and exhibitions between the two NFL guest games this week. The fans go wild here between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. – and the NFL can spread the word beyond its own national borders. Fans are currently looking forward to the New England Patriots’ second NFL match against the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday (3:30 p.m.) in the Waldstadion. The rush on the Roßmarkt during the week is still limited, but on Saturday in particular it is likely to be as turbulent as it was last weekend, when fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins as well as thousands of passers-by shaped the image of the city center have.

“This is a celebration for me”

Marco Pallus takes a few photos with his girlfriend between the giant helmets and the gallery. Since his father brought a Kaiser Chiefs cap with him after a business trip to the USA many years ago, he has remained loyal to the team from Kansas. He thinks back wistfully to his first football match. At that time, the Frankfurt Galaxy played their last game of the season in the Waldstadion. The Galaxy was the first German football club to work under professional conditions. 20,000 to 30,000 spectators regularly found their way to the Waldstadion for the first matches. However, 52,000 spectators came to the game against the Sacramento Surge on May 25, 1991, when it was a question of getting into the play-offs. A comment from Daniel Meuren Published/Updated: Recommendations: 3 Daniel Meuren, Frankfurt Published/Updated: , Recommendations: 3 Daniel Meuren Published/Updated: Recommendations: 5 Katja Sturm Published/Updated: Recommendations: 1 “That was crazy,” remembers pallus. He can hardly believe that the NFL is coming to Frankfurt – even in the week of his birthday. And as if things couldn’t get better, the Chiefs, his favorite team around quarterback Patrick Mahomes, won 21:14 against the Dolphins. “This is a celebration for me,” says Pallus. Alexander Schwarz, visitor to the NFL Experience Frankfurt. : Image: Lucas Bäuml At the Hauptwache, fans can put their throwing skills to the test in the quarterback challenge. In 20 seconds, you have to hit as many green targets as possible one after the other. The Mexicans José Carlos Morales from Boston and Miguel Rivera from Munich are also in line. Morales, a fan of the New England Patriots, scores twice – his friend comments mockingly: “That could be better.” Hopefully that’s not a bad omen for the match on Sunday. Morales and Rivera don’t have tickets, but they will be watching the game on television. Taylor Castelli and Julian Sfeir take a selfie right in front of the trophy. Castelli was born in the US state of Ohio and works with Sfeir at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt. His heart beats for American football and especially for the Cincinnati Bengals. However, only his German colleague was able to get tickets for last Sunday’s match: “The ticket price for my last match in the USA was much lower, but at least the beer in Frankfurt is significantly cheaper,” laughs the 34-year-old. However, the parties around the match and the break performances can still be expanded. Hats, caps, jerseys or balls: the NFL fan shop is also located at Roßmarkt. The Swiss Nicola Boss is waiting in front of the counter. The 27-year-old from Bern is following several teams, but he is primarily interested in the Kansas City Chiefs. When asked about the first game on Sunday, he raved: “That was my first NFL match ever. And then the Chiefs win too. That was a lot of fun.” He took four days off for the trip to Frankfurt. Was it worth it? “No question,” he says in Swiss German.

The Changing Landscape of Sports Entertainment: Oliver Bierhoff on Soccer and American Football

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 9, 2023

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Former professional soccer player Oliver Bierhoff is surprised that the supporting program is appreciated for American football and not for soccer. “What surprises me here in Germany, in contrast, is that we have to discuss it when Helene Fischer is in at halftime at the cup final. And two weeks later they say: How great that stars like Beyoncé or Rihanna are performing at the Superbowl,” Bierhoff told the dpa. “I believe that it is precisely this mixture of a great show and spectacular, dynamic moves that ensures that football is becoming increasingly popular in Germany.” Bierhoff took on an advisory role with the New England Patriots in October, which will take place on Sunday (3:30 p.m /RTL and DAZN) will play a season game against the Indianapolis Colts in the football stadium in Frankfurt. The 55-year-old’s time with the DFB, which he accompanied for a long time first as a player and later as an official, ended after the World Cup in Qatar last December. Now Bierhoff is promoting football. “Germany is now the second most important market next to the USA,” said Bierhoff. He sees clear discrepancies, especially in the dramaturgy and in the behavior of the fans. “The biggest difference to football is certainly that in a Bundesliga or international match you sit relatively attentively in your seat for 90 minutes and follow the game, while supporters’ chants can be heard continuously in the stadium. This is different in football because the game is much longer takes time and it keeps going up and down,” said Bierhoff.© dpa-infocom, dpa:231109-99-883764/3

Denver Broncos Defeat Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins on a Winning Streak, and Philadelphia Eagles Reign as Season’s Most Successful Team

Denver (dpa) – A week before Germany’s guest game in Frankfurt against the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly suffered their second defeat of the NFL season. Against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the Super Bowl winner conceded 9:24 and went without a touchdown of his own.

That hasn’t happened to quarterback Patrick Mahomes since December 2021. The Chiefs leader was weakened by flu-like symptoms and made two bad passes to the opponent. “I’ve never felt so bad walking out of this stadium,” said Mahomes, who had never lost in Denver before in his career.

Philadelphia Eagles most successful team

The Miami Dolphins, on the other hand, are traveling to Germany with momentum. The team scored 31:17 against the New England Patriots – who will also meet the Carolina Panthers in Frankfurt on November 12th. Tua Tagovailoa had three touchdown passes and threw for a total of 324 yards. He made a bad pass. Mac Jones from the Patriots had two touchdowns and one interception and even gave the Patriots a 7-0 lead. After the equalizer in the first quarter, the Dolphins never gave up control of the game. Miami travels to Frankfurt as the leaders of the AFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles remain the most successful team of the season. After the 38:31 win against the Washington Commanders, the team around quarterback Jalen Hurts is the only one in the NFL that has won seven of eight games. The San Francisco 49ers, who like the Eagles were undefeated three weeks ago, suffered their third defeat in a row. The score against the Cincinnati Bengals was 17:31.

New England Patriots 2016: Super Bowl Comeback and Best Defense in NFL

4. New England Patriots 2016
In the 2016 Super Bowl season, the New England Patriots made the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history from a 28-3 deficit. No wonder, really, because the Patriots had by far the best defense in the league and, led by Tom Brady, were able to bring the third best offense in the NFL onto the field. The quarterback had a string of stellar passes in Julian Edelmann, Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett and Danny Amendola, supported on the ground by running back trio LeGarette Blount, Dion Lewis and James Develin. With stars like Devin McCourty, Rob Ninkovich, Kyle Van Now and Dont’a Hightower also on the other side of the ball, the team definitely belongs in the top 10. © IMAGO/USA TODAY Network

Where to Get NFL Tickets: Authorized Sellers and Travel Partners

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 24, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Those who tried to get NFL tickets on the two days of pre-sale will most likely get nothing. There are still a few ways to get tickets – without having to rely on dubious portals.

NFL tickets: eBay prohibits sales

Anyone who hopes to get hold of a ticket on the secondary market is dependent on Ticketmaster, just like with pre-sales: “Ticketmaster Resale is the only authorized resale site. This is the only site where tickets can be verified. Purchasing on another website is not recommended,” says the NFL-Homepage.

The resale officially started on Wednesday, July 12th. However, tickets are rarely available on the Ticketmaster homepage.

Incidentally, anyone looking for NFL tickets on eBay or wanting to sell them is out of luck: the platform has now officially banned trading with them.

NFL tickets including hotel with NFL travel partner

Another way to still get tickets for the two NFL games is through Dertour, the official travel partner of the NFL. The sponsor has received its own ticket contingent, which it sells together with hotel accommodation on its homepage. Even the cheapest tickets – as mentioned, but at least with an overnight stay – cost over 500 euros here.

Kansas City Chiefs

Two-time Super Bowl Champ (2019, 2022)
Conference: AFC West
Head Coach: Andy Reid

The Kansas City Chiefs won the 57th Super Bowl this year against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs previously managed this feat in 2019. The team’s top star is quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who helped his team win this year’s Super Bowl despite an ankle injury and was named MVP – Most Valuable Player – for it. He became the first player in NFL history to be named MVP and Super Bowl MVP, as well as having the most passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season.

New England Patriots

Six-time Super Bowl Champion (2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, 2018)
Conference: AFC East
Head Coach: Bill Belichick

The New England Patriots are among the best NFL teams in the past 20 years. According to the Forbes list, the NFL team is the second most valuable sports team in the world. Every home game since 1994 has been sold out. The Patriots hold the record for most Super Bowl appearances (11) and wins (6) thanks to head coach Bill Belichick and ex-quarterback Tom Brady. The Brady-Belichick era ran from 2001 to 2019 and included all Super Bowl wins and the NFL’s best post-season stats. After Brady left the Patriots in 2019, the team will have a chance to prove themselves with the new roster against the Indianapolis Colts at the second NFL Frankfurt Game in November. After winning every single game against the Colts in the 2010s, the Patriots ended that winning streak in 2021 with a loss to the Colts. The Patriots won again last year.

Miami Dolphins

Two-time Super Bowl champion (1972, 1973)
Conference: AFC East
Head Coach: Mike McDaniel

The Miami Dolphins have existed since 1966 and have achieved two Super Bowl victories (1972 & 1973). The Marino Shula era in the early 1990s is considered to be the team’s most successful period, in which football history was often written. The team has lost some of their reach and success in recent years, however, they did have a spectacular Week 14 win over the New England Patriots in 2018 with quarterback Ryan Tanehill. The Dolphins started the 2023 season with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins are the only team in the NFL since the beginning of the Super Bowl era to have gone an entire season unbeaten: The 1972 season saw the team go undefeated and win the 1973 Super Bowl, making football history.

Indianapolis Colts

Two-time Super Bowl champion (1970, 2006)
Conference: AFC South
Head Coach: Shane Steichen

The Indianapolis Colts were formed under the name “Baltimore Colts” in 1953 before changing their name in 1984 after moving to Indianapolis. Coach Don Shula, who is considered the most successful coach in football history, held his first position as head coach for the Colts, who were still playing in Baltimore at the time. In November, the Colts will play the New England Patriots in Frankfurt. The Colts have a lot of fans in Germany and will continue their long-standing rivalry against the Patriots at the Frankfurt game.

The Colts won the 1971 Super Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 16-13. However, they committed a total of seven turnovers.
