Dorna Sports to โEnd MotoE Championship After 2025 Season
MADRID, SPAIN – Dorna sports has announcedโ it will discontinue teh FIMโข motoe Worldโ Championship following the conclusion of the โ2025 season, citing lagging innovation in electric motorcycle technology as a key factor. The decision marks a significant shift for the series, which began in 2019 as a showcase for sustainable motorsport and a testing ground for electric motorcycle growth.
The move comes as Dorna, which โholds promotional rights through 2060 for MotoGP,MotoE,the Superbike World Championship, the JuniorGP World Championship, and the Women’s โขCircuit โขRacing World Championship, seeks to focus โresources on areas demonstrating more rapid technological advancement. Despite initial enthusiasmโ and a commitment to a greener future, the paceโ of development in electric motorcycle performance has not met expectations, โhindering โขthe series’ ability to deliver the competitive spectacle desired by fansโฃ and โstakeholders.
“They’ve seen the sameโข thing that I’ve seen in terms of the โคpotential, in terms ofโข the uniqueโฃ intellectual property, the global fan base,” said a Dorna Sports representative, speaking generally about bringing in โexpertise from โFormula 1 and other businesses.”They’re going toโ realy be a catalyst toโ help us take advantage of the realโ strengths of the sport.”โฃ This suggests โคa strategic refocusing of investment towards core MotoGP โand WorldSBK properties, โleveraging external expertise to maximize revenue and globalโข reach.
Dornaโ Sports is currently targeting revenue of โฌ520 million in the 2025 fiscal year,โ bolstered by an expandedโ 22-race MotoGP calendar which, as of this announcement, has experienced no race cancellations. The โdecision to end MotoE dose not signalโค a complete abandonment of electric technology, butโ rather aโข recalibration of itsโ role within Dorna’s portfolio. The company will continue to explore opportunities for sustainable technologies within its other โchampionships, but will prioritize areas were innovationโข is demonstrably accelerating.
The future of the MotoE infrastructure, including โthe Energica motorcyclesโ and associatedโ support systems, remains unclear. Dorna has not yet released details regarding the disposition of these assetsโ following the 2025 season.
