Playa Blanca, Yaiza โ- Over 150 athletes from across the Canary Islands โคand the Spanish peninsulaโ gathered in โขPlayaโ Blanca last Saturday โฃfor โฃthe fourth edition of the Kenpo Tournament, showcasing the growing popularity โof the martial art in the southern โคLanzarote town. Organized byโ the Kenpo Karate Lanzarote Academy School โwith the support of the Yaiza Cityโ Council and the THB Tropical Island hotel, โฃthe event focused onโฃ formative growth and fostering the core values of work, perseverance, discipline, and respect.
Competitors โrangingโ in age fromโข four years old participated, accompanied by coachesโ and families. A delegation โof fifteenโ athletes travelled from andalusiaโ alone, demonstrating the tournament’s expanding reach.
“Weโ are very โsatisfied with the organizational andโ technicalโ result of the tournament,” stated รngel Lago,โค Sports Councilor of Yaiza. “it is a real pride that โฃa club from theโ municipality, part of our Sports Schools program, canโ promote an eventโฃ of these characteristics and โขpromote the โgrowth โof Kenpo.”
The tournament โฃalso highlighted the โคsuccessโฃ of local talent. Young Daniel Vallejo of โขPlaya โblanca, recently returned from the โEuropean Championship inโ Ciudad Realโฃ where he won a bronze medal representingโฃ Spain inโ Semi Kenpo -45 kg (male 12-14 years), was in attendance. “I want to continue improving and โif I โwant โคto be first I have to train more,” Vallejo shared,โข acknowledging โฃhis nerves during the continental competition.
Wellington Castro, head of โthe Kenpo Karateโ Lanzarote Academyโข School, emphasized the importance of community support. “The โkeyโ to growth โฃis the support of theโ athletes and their families and โขtheโ support of โthe Yaiza City Council, which believes inโข grassrootsโ sports.โ The entire team behind theโ tournament is โconvinced that everyโข year weโ can doโข better.”
