“Crystal Arrow” exercises will be held in March. These will be the certification exercises of the battle group of NATO’s extended presence in Latvia and the training of the headquarters and units of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the National Armed Forces (NBS) for improving command, planning and conducting operations.

Solar Eclipse IV, a tactical field training for combat support specialists with a focus on indirect fire support in depth combat, will take place in April.

In April and May, international regional military exercises “Saber Strike” organized by the High Command of the US Armed Forces in Europe and Africa are planned. The NBS plans to participate in the exercise to train the interoperability of units in tactical operations, as well as to conduct a tactical march.

Military exercises “Baltops”, which are the largest and most complicated exercises of naval forces and services in the Baltic Sea region, are scheduled for June.

More than 500 foreign military personnel will participate in each exercise in Latvia.

In accordance with the law, the decision on the participation of NBS units in joint military exercises on the territory of Latvia, if more than 500 foreign military personnel participate in the exercises, is adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Ukrainian Kamikaze Drone Strikes Russian Kamaz Truck: Impact and Implications

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 31, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A Ukrainian kamikaze drone aimed at the cab of a Kamaz truck, but without detonating it got stuck in the windshield.

FPV drones have caused serious headaches for Russian logistics. Almost every day, Ukrainian kamikaze drones are blamed for the destruction of occupiers’ vehicles and trucks, often also for the liquidation of their service personnel.

Consequently, the Russians replenish their troops and supplies mainly at night, taking advantage of limited visibility and countering Ukrainian drone attacks.

FPV drones have been widely used by both the occupying and Ukrainian forces since the start of Russia’s criminal invasion on February 24, 2022. These drones have proven to be an effective and versatile weapon.

They have played a critical role in Ukraine’s military efforts, enabling Ukrainian drone units to carry out attacks deep inside Russian territory while helping to mitigate casualties among ground forces.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Facing Challenges Due to Frozen Dnieper River and Kamikaze Drones in Kherson Region

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 18, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

In the Kherson region, due to the freezing of the Dnieper River, it is difficult for Ukrainian defenders to cross to the left bank.

Now The Ukrainian Armed Forces now have two new problems: the frozen Dnieper and kamikaze droneswith which the enemy is already striking at the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

Today, January 18, analysts from Institute for the Study of War presented detailed information on the situation in the Kherson region.

Now it is difficult for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to reach the left bank of the Kherson region due to the freezing of the Dnieper and Konka rivers. The enemy also began to more actively use kamikaze drones against the forward positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This first became known at the end of December 2023. However, now such attacks have become more frequent.

At the same time, Russian military officers claim that attacks are being carried out on Ukrainian military facilities in the rear on the territory of the Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov regions.

Regarding the situation in the Krynok area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces maintain their positions. Positional battles take place every day, but the front line has not yet changed.

Z-channels write that the occupiers from the 8th company of the 810th marine brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet hoisted the Russian flag in the center of Krynok. However, analysts from ISW did not find any visual confirmation of this.

At the same time, Russian military correspondents also claim that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were forced to leave all the islands in the Dnieper delta due to the freezing of the river itself. Now this territory is a gray zone. The enemy had already tried to land on one of the islands, but the artillery of the Ukrainian Armed Forces defeated the entire enemy group.

In the Dnieper delta and in the area of the Cossack Camps, occupiers from the 205th motorized brigade are operating.

We previously reported that during two months of fighting in the Krynok area, the occupiers created a new line of defense on the M14 highway.

Meanwhile, the occupiers are complaining that the command again threw them into a “meat assault” in the Krynok area.

Ukraine’s M-113 Armored Personnel Carriers Mounted with ZU-23-2 Cannons Prove Effective Against Drones and Enemy Infantry

Ukraine’s M-113 Armored Personnel Carriers Mounted with ZU-23-2 Cannons Prove Effective Against Drones and Enemy Infantry

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 8, 2024

The ZU-23-2 cannon mounted on the M-113 armored personnel carrier perfectly destroys not only enemy personnel, but also drones.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry decided to install Soviet ZU-23-2 cannons on old American M-113 armored personnel carriers, which eventually became a very effective weapon against drones and enemy infantry.

Experts say that these two systems from the times of the USSR were simply created as a share of each other, the publication reports Forbes.

The anti-aircraft gun was created back in the 1960s and is equipped with two 23 mm cannons that fire at a distance of up to 2 km at a speed of 400 rounds per minute.

The American M-113 armored personnel carrier was also developed in the 1960s. It weighs up to 14 tons, seats 11 passengers and has a diesel engine with a capacity of 275 horsepower.

Experts say that the armored personnel carrier has poor armor, but if you add a turret and additional armor, the armored vehicle can be turned into a tank. And the anti-aircraft installation “23-2” made the armored personnel carrier an effective weapon in the fight against enemy drones and infantry.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have long learned to install the ZU-23-2 on various military equipment, but only at the end of last week did footage of the ZU-23-2 on the M-113 armored personnel carrier appear on the Internet.

It is known that the West has supplied Kyiv with about a thousand of these armored personnel carriers. They are used not only on the battlefield, but also in military medicine, and also as evacuation transport.

Experts are surprised that the Ukrainian Armed Forces for a long time did not think of installing ZU-23-2 armored vehicles.

There is also footage on the Internet of how, with the help of such installations, Ukrainian defenders destroy kamikaze drones in the sky.

We previously reported that after receiving F-16s from Norway, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are ready to launch a new counter-offensive in the Kherson region.

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian military correspondent Mashovets announces the gathering of enemy forces in the Kupyansk area.

Discover the History and Use of the BTR-50 Armored Personnel Carrier in Ukraine’s Conflict

Discover the History and Use of the BTR-50 Armored Personnel Carrier in Ukraine’s Conflict

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 18, 2023

The group of analysts “Ukraine Weapons Tracker” published a photo of the destroyed BTR-50 on the microblogging site “X” (formerly “Twitter”). A damaged T-64BV tank stands next to the armored personnel carrier.

Analysts believe that the armored personnel carrier most likely belonged to soldiers from the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” or “Luhansk People’s Republic”.

In February of this year, the Ukrainian military portal “Militarnyi” reported that the occupiers were bringing BTR-50P armored personnel carriers to the front area. Previously, these armored personnel carriers were observed at a landfill near the city of Urzuf.

The occupants of the Soviet-era BTR-50 most likely started using the most modern armored personnel carrier due to the shortage. To fill the holes faster, these almost 70-year-old armored personnel carriers are thrown into battle.

#Ukraine: The first confirmed loss of a Russian BTR-50 APC- this one was destroyed during the ongoing offensive on Avdiivka, #Donetsk Oblast. A damaged T-64BV can be seen nearby too.

The Russian troops started to receive these rather old APCs in February of this year. pic.twitter.com/MdLoTJtVNl

This combat vehicle was created in 1952 on the basis of the Soviet PT-76 light amphibious tank. However, in 1954, the BTR-50 began to be used in the Russian army. It was mass-produced until 1970, with a total of 6,500.

The crew of the armored personnel carrier consists of two people, while the BTR-50 can carry up to 20 soldiers in total.

VRAC Disaster Recovery Vehicle: Rare Spanish Pegaso BMR APC Adapted for Medical Evacuation in Ukraine

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A very rare vehicle has appeared in the armed forces of Ukraine – the VRAC disaster recovery vehicle. It is reported that only three copies were produced.

This military vehicle is built on the basis of the Spanish “Pegaso BMR APC” 6×6 wheeled armored personnel carrier. Only this vehicle has been converted for medical evacuation purposes.

It is not yet clear how this extremely rare vehicle, created in Spain, ended up in the possession of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The primary purpose of the Pegasus vehicle is to rescue people from disaster areas in extreme weather conditions.

There is a possibility that the Spanish government presented the armored personnel carrier to Ukraine, although there is no official information about this fact. There is also a possibility that the military vehicle was bought by a private benefactor and handed over to the Ukrainian forces.

Spanish “Pegaso” armored personnel carriers have been produced by “Enasa” company since 1979. The armored personnel carriers of the Spanish army played an important role in the international operations of the Spanish troops in the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon.
