Barcelona‌ adn Real Madrid Eye⁤ Mexican Midfield Prospect Gilberto Mora

Jakarta – ⁤Spanish ⁣football giants Barcelona⁣ and Real Madrid are closely tracking 17-year-old Mexican midfielder ⁣Gilberto Mora, according to reports. ‌Both clubs have received encouraging assessments of the young player’s potential.

Mora recently starred for Mexico in their 2025 Concacaf gold Cup victory, becoming the youngest player ⁣to debut for the national ⁣team -‍ known as El Tri -⁢ and featuring as a starter ‌in the ‌final. ⁤He further showcased his talent at the 2025 U-20 World Cup, scoring ⁤three goals and providing two assists despite Mexico’s quarter-final loss to Argentina ⁣(0-2).

A source within Barcelona confirmed the club’s interest, stating, “We received very⁢ interesting reports about him. He’s just been in the media spotlight, and everyone is talking about him. He’s a very skilled midfielder, a player with very good prospects, although it’s too early to say what his ultimate goal is.”

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, reportedly dispatched his confidant, Joao Amaral, to Chile to observe Mora‍ and other promising players during the U-20 World Cup. Real madrid is also evaluating Mora, ⁤viewing him as a standout talent ⁢from the 2008 birth year generation and a potential creative force following the anticipated departures of veterans Toni kroos and Luka Modric.

Though, due to Mora’s current age, both clubs will need to wait until he turns 18 before they can legally pursue a transfer. Real Madrid also sees potential in developing the ⁣Mexican market.

Government Shutdown: Johnson Blames Health Care Demands

by Emma Walker – News Editor October 13, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

WASHINGTON ‍(AP) ⁤-‌ A prolonged government shutdown looms‌ as ‌Speaker Mike Johnson warned Wednesday it coudl be the longest in modern‌ history, perhaps impacting a wide range of ⁣federal services while some agencies are ‌cushioned‍ by⁢ previously approved funding. The shutdown began after Congress failed to ⁤pass a spending bill before a Friday deadline.

While military personnel were spared immediate financial disruption thanks to an $8 billion transfer from unused research and progress funds within the Pentagon, other⁣ critical programs face immediate cuts. The Education Department is already experiencing disruptions to special education and after-school programs.johnson’s warning underscores the complexities of the current impasse, where the “One Big Beautiful ⁤bill Act” – a law passed earlier – provides some agencies with flexibility,⁣ but leaves others vulnerable. The‍ nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has‍ indicated the administration could utilize mandatory funding ‌from the 2025‍ reconciliation act to maintain activities at various agencies currently funded by direct appropriations.⁣ The‌ CBO specifically ‌identified the Department of Defense, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of Management and Budget as recipients of funds under ⁢the law that could mitigate‍ shutdown impacts.

According to a CBO letter responding to Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, ⁢funds within the Department of Defense’s 2025 reconciliation act appropriation could be ‍used to continue paying active-duty personnel, lessening the number of federal workers facing delayed compensation. However, the length of ⁢the shutdown remains uncertain, and the full extent of the disruption will depend on ‍the duration of the congressional ‍deadlock.

Title: Mexico Floods: Death Toll Climbs as Storms Ravage Country

Mexico Floods: Death Toll Rises to 28 as‍ Torrential ⁢Rains Cause widespread Destruction

TULANCINGO‌ DE BRAVO, ⁤Mexico – At least 28 people have died across Mexico this week due to devastating ⁤floods triggered by exceptionally⁢ heavy rainfall, authorities reported Friday,⁤ October 10th. The extreme weather has impacted 31 of Mexico’s 32 states, ⁣causing rivers to overflow, villages to ⁤be submerged, and widespread landslides and infrastructure collapses.

The central state of‌ Hidalgo has been particularly⁣ hard hit, with 16 confirmed fatalities, 1,000 homes damaged, and 90 communities cut off from rescue efforts. Neighboring Puebla ⁣state has reported at least⁤ nine deaths, with fears the toll could⁢ rise as⁤ searches continue for ⁤the missing. Approximately ‍80,000‍ people in Puebla alone have been affected by ⁣the flooding.

Further deaths were reported ⁤in Veracruz (2) and Queretaro (1).

President Claudia Sheinbaum has mobilized a national response, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that efforts are underway to support affected populations, restore⁣ infrastructure, and reconnect power supplies.⁣ Thousands‍ of troops, alongside boats, planes, and helicopters, have been deployed to assist in rescue and relief operations.

National Civil defence Coordinator Laura Velazquez confirmed reports of landslides, overflowing rivers, and collapsed roads throughout the affected‍ regions. Over 5,400‍ troops‍ are distributing aid, and shelters have been opened for‌ those displaced from their homes.

The Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, home to manny small and now‍ isolated communities, has been the epicenter of the disaster. Roads‌ leading to these villages,⁢ including⁢ those near Tulancingo in hidalgo state, remain ⁢closed due to landslides and collapses.

Meteorologist Isidro Cano explained that the intense rainfall, beginning Thursday, is due to a seasonal⁤ shift combined with ⁤the collision of⁢ warm, humid air from the Gulf ‍of ⁤Mexico rising ‌over‍ the mountains and a cold front ‌moving in from the north.

Adding to the challenges, ⁢authorities are monitoring tropical storms Raymond and⁤ Priscilla off the Pacific coast. while currently distant,⁣ these ‍storms have already brought heavy rains to the⁤ states of Chiapas, Guerrero,⁤ Oaxaca, and Michoacan. Raymond is forecast to reach the southern Baja california peninsula over the weekend,‌ weakening to a⁤ tropical depression by sunday.

Mexico has experienced unusually heavy rainfall throughout 2025, including a⁤ record rainfall in Mexico City. The current crisis underscores the vulnerability ⁢of communities to extreme‍ weather events.
