Lincoln Resident Loses $67,000 in Cryptocurrency Scam,โค City Responds with New Ordinances
LINCOLN, Neb. – A Lincoln man is reeling afterโค losing $67,000โ to a sophisticated cryptocurrency scam, highlighting a growing wave of fraud targeting residents. City officials are responding with new measures aimed at protecting the โpublic.
Salman Moshiri received a suspicious text message โฃon Thursday afternoon containingโ a verification code and instructions to call a number if he hadn’t โคrequested it.Believing heโฃ was safeguarding โขhis funds, โMoshiri spent two hours on the phone with a โคscammer, ultimately resulting in the transfer of $67,000 from hisโค account.
“I can’t sleep, I can’t eat anything as it is indeed heartbreaking,” Moshiri told 10/11โค News. “It’s losing something that’s (worth) a lot of money.”
Moshiri expressed frustration that his cryptocurrencyโ investment broker didn’t intervene sooner,questioning theโ security measures in place. “Where โisโ the security? Where is the protection?” he asked.”They should call me quickly to stop it.”
His experience comes as Lincoln battlesโ an estimatedโ $11 million wave of cryptocurrency scams. Moshiriโฃ is now urging others to be vigilant. “Any text message,don’t open it,don’t call as you will be responsible forโข this situation and it’s a very โขhard โขsituation,” he warned.
