Guyanese Duoโข Represent Venezuela withโ Mathematical Prowess at International Olympiad
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA – Two โฃVenezuelan mathletes, Joseph Pรฉrez and Diego Padrino, are competing at the International Mathematical Olympiad, bringingโ a unique dynamic to the competition: both are originally fromโค Guyana. The โpair, representing venezuela, are not only striving for a podium finish but also seeking academic opportunities through their performance.
The โฃstudents โexperienced a “shock” upon realizing โtheโ complexity gap between classroom problems and those presented at the Olympiad level. โdespite this initial โขchallenge, โฃtheyโ are dedicated to rigorous readiness, balancing their schoolwork with advanced mathematical studies and extracurricular activities like table tennis and baseball.โ
“It has taught us that when we have a problem, that is,of any kind,toโฃ think about whatโ would be the quickest way to โdo it,” Pรฉrez explained, reflecting on the lessons learned from the experience.
The olympiad represents more than โคjust a โขcompetition for Pรฉrez and Padrino; a strong showing could โคunlock university scholarships. “I would tell them that youโฃ have โคnothing to loseโค if you try,” Pรฉrez encouraged, urging other young people to participate in โขmathematical olympiads. Padrino added,โข “I would invite them to participate because it is not known exactly what opportunities participating in โan Olympics โคcan bring them.”
Supported โby their parents โฃand school, the Guyanese-born โVenezuelans are โaimingโ to โขsecure a top positionโฃ for Venezuela โฃand open doors to future academicโข pursuits.
