Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Malaysian National Team asked to bulldoze Oman in the 2026 World Cup Qualification (PPD) after failing in the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar.

Malaysia is in good performance in the 2026 World Cup Qualifications by topping the Asian Group D standings after beating Taiwan and Kyrgyzstan in November 2023.

However, this positive trend stopped at the 2023 Asian Cup after being eliminated after losing two matches in Group E. Malaysia closed the group stage with a 3-3 draw against South Korea.

Malaysian legend Dollah Saleh considered that one point score important. The former Malaysia striker also asked Harimau Malaya to rise and beat Oman in the third match of the 2023 World Cup Qualification, next March.

“A team like Oman has the same strength as the team we played against in the Asian Cup. In fact, South Korea is stronger than them, so we should be able to do well against them [Oman],” said Dollah quoted from News Strait Times.

Dollah Saleh also gave conditions to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) so that Harimau Malaya remains good in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, namely quality trials.

“The important thing is that we play quality friendly matches to prepare us for the upcoming competition. We must not play against weak teams in our friendly matches,” said Dollah.

Dollah Saleh believes it is important for FAM and Malaysia to maintain the momentum of maintaining good performance until the 2026 World Cup Qualifications.

“We have to maintain momentum. After a long time, now is the time for us to return to levels like those of the 1980s and 1990s. We are showing improvement [di Piala Asia] and if we can challenge South Korea, we can also challenge other Asian countries,” said Dollah.

South Korean National Team Coach Disappointed After Draw with Malaysia – 2023 Asian Cup News

AL-WAKRAH – South Korean National Team Coach, Jurgen Klinsmann admitted that he was disappointed after his team was held back by Malaysia (3-3) in the final match of the 2023 Asian Cup group stage. Klinsmann emphasized that the draw was not an intention to avoid Japan in the last 16.

South Korea was surprisingly held to a 3-3 draw by Malaysia at Al-Janoub Stadium Park, Al-Wakrah, Qatar on Thursday (25/1/2024). This draw meant that the Taegeuk Warriors – the nickname of the South Korean national team – ended the group phase in second place in Group E with five points.

In this way, they avoided the Japanese national team, which is the runner up in Group D of the 2023 Asian Cup. In the round of 16, South Korea will face Saudi Arabia, while Japan will meet Bahrain, which is the winner of Group E.

Klinsmann admitted that he was very disappointed with the draw against Malaysia. The German coach dismissed the notion that South Korea deliberately gave in to avoid the Blue Samurai – the nickname of the Japanese national team.

“It was not our plan to concede three goals today just to avoid Japan,” said Klinsmann, quoted from the official website of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Friday (26/1/2024).

“We want to qualify as group winners and the team is trying. Malaysia played with all their heart but we should have won this match,” he continued.

Apart from that, Klinsmann emphasized that his team is ready to face the last 16 of the 2024 Asian Cup. The Taegeuk Warriors will meet Saudi Arabia at the Education City Stadium, Al-Rayyan, Qatar on Tuesday (30/1/2024).

“The knockout stage is different to the group stage but it is difficult for every team to play like we did. “No matter who we meet in the Round of 16, if we want to win the tournament, we have to beat all the teams,” he said.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

A total of three national teams have been confirmed to be eliminated from 2023 Asian Cup. The following is a list of teams eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup.

Lebanon is the latest team confirmed to be eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup. This certainty was obtained after being defeated by Tajikistan 1-2 at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Al Rayyan, Monday (22/1).

The defeat against Tajikistan meant that Lebanon ended Group A at the bottom of the standings with one point. Miodrag Radulovic’s team lost by one point to China in third place.

Lebanon follows two Southeast Asian teams: Vietnam and Malaysia, which have already been confirmed to be eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup.

Vietnam was confirmed to be eliminated after being defeated by the Indonesian National Team 0-1 on Friday (19/1). This defeat made The Golden Stars the bottom team of Group D because they lost head to head from Indonesia and Japan.

Meanwhile in Group D, Malaysia has also been confirmed to be eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup. The Harimau Malaya team is at the bottom of the standings after losing 0-4 to Jordan and 0-1 to Bahrain.

These two consecutive defeats meant that the Malaysian national team was confirmed to be the caretaker team in Group E. This was because Kim Pan Gon’s team lost head to head from Bahrain who is in third place with three points.

The number of teams eliminated from the 2023 Asian Cup will certainly increase tonight, Tuesday (23/1), when four matches will be played. The four matches that will be played today are Australia vs Uzbekistan and Syria vs India in Group B and Iran vs United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong vs Palestine in Group C.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Malaysian National Team who was originally aiming to qualify for the round of 16 Asian Cup 2023 (2024) will definitely be excluded from the continental event.

The Harimau Malaya squad lost in the first two matches of the group phase. After being beaten by Jordan 0-4, Kim Pan Gon’s men suffered a dramatic 0-1 defeat to Bahrain.

With these two defeats, Malaysia will certainly not advance to the knockout phase because in terms of points and head to head they will lose compared to the other three contestants in the group phase.

After failing miserably, and now ranking fourth in Group E, Malaysia is in danger of being destroyed. This is because Malaysia will face South Korea in the last match.

Korea is currently in second place in Group E. The Taegeuk Warriors squad was shocked by a draw against Jordan. Korea achieved the same points as Jordan, but Jurgen Klinsmann’s team lost on goal difference to Jordan.

South Korea, which is one of the top seeds in the Asian Cup, will most likely perform with all its might in the closing match of the group phase and try to score as many goals as possible to occupy the top position.

If Korea is ranked second in the final standings of Group E, then they will meet the Group F winners, which are being contested by Saudi Arabia and Thailand. Meanwhile, if they win Group E, Son Heung Min and his friends will meet the runners up in Group D, which could be Iraq or Japan.

Korea’s strength poses a serious threat to Malaysia, who have conceded five goals so far and have never been able to score against their opponents.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Malaysian National Team lost dramatically 0-1 to Bahrain in the second match of Group E of the 2023 Asian Cup at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Saturday (20/1).

Bahrain absolutely controlled the game and also dominated the attacks. But Bahrain’s attacks pose little threat to Malaysia.

Malaysia, who continued to be pressured by Bahrain, defended quite deeply, while hoping to mount a quick counterattack.

However, Malaysia’s counterattacks are often effective and pose a threat to Bahrain. In the 15th minute, Faisal Halim became the creator of Malaysia’s counterattack.

After outwitting one opposing player, Faisal passed the ball to striker Paulo Josue. Unfortunately, Josue failed to take advantage of that moment and the ball was caught by the Bahrain defense.

However, the thrown ball was not perfect and was controlled by Arif Aiman. Arif Aiman’s shot in the 16th minute was blocked by goalkeeper Ebrahim Lutfallah.

In the 27th minute Matthew Davies fired a long ball towards the Bahrain goal, but the ball flew narrowly over the bar.

In the 30th minute Komail Al Aswad was brought down by Matthew Davies in the penalty box, but referee Ahmed Al Kaf did not consider the incident a penalty violation for Bahrain.

Substitute striker Abdulla Yusuf Helal almost scored a goal in the 56th minute. However, Helal’s header, which took advantage of a cross from the right side, went narrowly on the left side of the Malaysian goal.

Bahrain, who controlled the game and dominated the attack, had problems in the final pass. Neither crosses from both sides nor breakthrough passes from Bahrain’s midfield were accurate or mature passes.

In the 73rd minute, Mohamed Adel released a mature cross from the right side, which Mahdi Al Humaidan aimed for. However, Al Humaidan wasted the goal opportunity after his right foot failed to hit the ball.

The Bahrain vs Malaysia match is actually monotonous and boring. Malaysia had difficulty penetrating the opponent’s defense, while Bahrain could not create good opportunities.

Malaysia, which has an advantage in speed, also loses the ball too easily. The late transition from defense to attack hampered counterattacks.

Matthew Davies fired a right-footed volley from close range in the 89th minute, but the ball did not go into the Bahrain goal.

In the minute of injury time, Bahrain had a golden opportunity to score a goal after Ali Hasan Isa received a breakthrough pass. However, Isa’s left-footed shot was thwarted by goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi.

When the match seemed like it would end in a draw, disaster struck for Malaysia in the 90+5 minute. Harimau Malaya conceded in the final seconds of the match.

Utilizing a corner kick scheme, the ball which the Malaysian defense failed to dispose of fell to Ali Madan’s feet. From the front of the penalty box, Madan fired a right-footed shot which sent the ball across the field towards the bottom left corner of the goal without goalkeeper Syihan being able to reach it.

Bahrain won 1-0 over Malaysia.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Players Malaysian National Team still have the confidence to advance to the round of 16 Asian Cup 2023 despite being beaten by Jordan 0-4 in the first match.

Next, Malaysia will face Bahrain on Saturday (20/1) and face South Korea on Thursday (25/1). Facing the remaining two matches, the Harimau Malaya squad is looking forward to the opportunity to penetrate the knockout phase.

It is considered that the crushing defeat by Jordan did not destroy Malaysia’s target in the Asian Cup and also recorded its own history after the three previous participations were always stopped in the group phase.

“We are still in the tournament, we still have a chance so we have to prepare for the next match and forget about defeat,” said naturalized Malaysian player Paulo Josue as quoted by Named.

“This will be a tough match, we watched the Bahrain match, they made it difficult for South Korea. So we need a good plan to see what is best to do, go out, play and try to get maximum points to qualify,” he explained.

Another Malaysian player, Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim, is also still optimistic that Malaysia has a chance to advance to the knockout rounds and asked his teammates to perform optimally against Bahrain.

Faisal also believes that defeat is normal in football and as footballers the Malaysian players will forget the negative results against Jordan.

Malaysia last met Bahrain in the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers which took place two years ago. At that time, Malaysia lost 1-2 after taking the lead through Muhamadou Sumareh’s goal.
