Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan Reveals Plans for Meeting with Tesla’s Elon Musk for Starlink Collaboration in Indonesia

Jakarta –

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed plans for a meeting with Tesla boss Elon Musk in October. Then, what will be discussed?

Luhut said that his meeting with one of the richest people in the world was related to cooperation with Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite. As for Starlink, it is planned to cooperate with PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (Persero) in providing internet access.

“I think he (Elon Musk) will be here, in October,” he said, at the Bloomberg CEO Forum, at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/9/2023).

When confirmed further after the event, Luhut emphasized again that Elon Musk’s purpose in coming was related to the Starlink collaboration. Meanwhile for Tesla itself, it has decided not to invest in any country in building a factory.

“To check Starlink (October). Tesla, as I said earlier, they will not invest anywhere, not only in Indonesia. So if you say in Malaysia, they are only open to sell Tesla cars,” he explained.

However, when asked further about whether Tesla would cancel its cooperation with Indonesia, Luhut did not think so.

“Not really, he still sees Indonesia as his priority,” he concluded.

As additional information, Tesla was previously reported to be delaying its investments worldwide, including Indonesia. Luhut said global economic conditions were the main problem.

Luhut said that during a face-to-face meeting in the United States, Elon Musk admitted that he did not want to go bankrupt because of an excess stock of cars. This has happened to General Motors and Elon Musk doesn’t want it to happen to Tesla. Until now, Luhut explained, out of a total of 3 million Tesla electric cars, there are still 1.2 million left that have not been sold and purchased.

“Elon said he doesn’t want to be like General Motors, going bankrupt because of oversupply, so his investment in Mexico will also be put on hold before they start producing until they understand this market,” Luhut said in a video upload on his official Instagram account @luhut.pandjaitan, Monday ( 14/8/2023).

Meanwhile, news is blowing that there will be another collaboration that Indonesia is exploring with Elon Musk, namely through Starlink. Starlink has collaborated with Telkomsat to turn the internet satellite into the backhaul of Telkom’s subsidiary services. The scheme is business to business (B2B), not business to consumer (B2C).

During the meeting, Luhut also received confirmation from Elon Musk regarding cooperation in providing internet access for eastern Indonesia via Starlink. Luhut explained that Starlink has thousands of small low earth orbit satellites that can be used to provide internet access to remote areas.

“He wanted Starlink to be able to operate in our rural areas, and coincidentally the Minister of Health also came with me too and saw that many of our villages cannot be reached by the internet. Therefore we also agreed with Elon for Starlink to enter eastern Indonesia. ,” said Luhut.

Issues and Evaluations of the Jabodebek LRT Operations

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jakarta –

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan spoke about operations Greater Jakarta LRT which is still plagued with disturbances. Luhut emphasized that there was no mistake in the Jabodebek LRT.

“Look, the LRT doesn’t have any mistakes thingumajigIt’s still just being calibrated,” said Luhut at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Friday (1/9/2023).

Luhut asked the public not to continue making a fuss over the Jabodebek LRT, considering that this is the first light rail built by the nation’s children.

“So don’t keep making noise aja. This is what the nation’s children are making for the first time, was China first then Japan didn’t experience something like this? Yes experience it,” he said.

Luhut also confirmed that an evaluation would be carried out on the operation of the Jabodebek LRT. Including subject headway or the distance between train departures that many complain about.

“Oh yes, let’s evaluate earlier, I talked to the Minister of Transportation, right? That’s also a new train set for 16, then it will continue to 22-36 and so on. Headwaywe want 4 minutes. Now what? 8 minutes, 12 minutes. It’s slowly going down as well as the calibration, it might take the next few months,” said Luhut.

“So there’s no need to be too fussy saying that this is how it all takes time, people get married aja It takes time,” he added.

As is known, the operation of the Jabodebek LRT which was inaugurated by Jokowi on August 28 was marred by disturbances and passenger complaints. The disturbance occurred among the train doors. Another disturbance was the blackout of electricity at Halim Station. The Jabodebek LRT also experienced delays until the AC had turned off.

The Decrease in OTT Cases in Jakarta: A Positive Sign for Corruption Reduction

The Decrease in OTT Cases in Jakarta: A Positive Sign for Corruption Reduction

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 14, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jakarta –

The red-handed operation (OTT) carried out by the KPK during the first half of 2023 totaled three cases. The KPK denied that this achievement was affected by the statement by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who asked the KPK not to conduct OTT anymore.

“Ahh not really,” said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur at the KPK building, South Jakarta, Monday (14/8/2023). Asep answered that the number of OTTs was affected by Luhut’s direction.

The number of OTT KPK in the first semester of 2023 has indeed decreased compared to last year. In the same period in 2022 the anti-corruption agency recorded five cases of OTT.

Asep assessed that the reduction in the number of OTTs should be responded positively. According to him, this is a sign that corruption in Indonesia is decreasing.

“So it’s true that OTT has decreased, I think positively, it means that those who have committed corruption have decreased. We must be proud of the decrease in OTT, the absence of OTT means that corruption has decreased with the least number of OTT,” explained Asep.

The number of OTT KPK cases in the first semester of 2023 is only three cases. This figure is calculated from the beginning of the year to June 30, 2023.

The three OTTs started with bribes in Meranti Regency. In addition, the Corruption Eradication Committee also caught hands in the case of the construction of a railway line at the Directorate General of Railways and a smart city project in the city of Bandung.

Luhut Asks KPK Not to Need OTT

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut is known to have often expressed his opinion regarding the OTT carried out by the KPK. Most recently, Luhut assessed that the fewer OTTs, the better the work of the KPK.

“If there is no OTT, it’s even better. It means the prevention is better,” Luhut said at the KPK, South Jakarta, Tuesday (18/7).

This year, the KPK has only conducted three OTTs. Luhut enthusiastically welcomed the ongoing law enforcement system at the KPK.

He admitted that he was surprised if the prosecution of corruption in Indonesia was still proud of the number of red-handed operations.

“Yes, you really have to go there (a little OTT). Why are we this nation always showing off OTT-OTT, proud to see that? OTT Rp. 50 million, Rp. 100 million. You have never told me how much they save trillions and billions,” Luhut explained .

Indonesia Plans to Halt Gas Exports, Focus on Domestic Usage – Coordinating Minister

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 24, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jakarta –

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government would not approve new gas export contract extensions. This is done because the government plans to stop gas exports.

Regarding stopping gas exports abroad, according to Luhut, this policy is still awaiting approval from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). What’s clear is that none of the gas export contracts will be extended, but those that have been running will still be permitted until the contract period expires.

“If the contract has been completed, we will not extend it, that’s the point. But later, we’ll have to wait for the meeting with the President. We will respect all existing contracts. Only when completed, expired, there will be no new contracts,” said Luhut at the Danareksa Tower, Central Jakarta, Monday (24/7/2023).

Luhut said natural gas (LNG) in Indonesia would be used for the downstream industry in Indonesia and if it could be used to replace it with LPG. The reason is, he said that so far most of natural gas has been exported but Indonesia still imports LPG.

“So, why should we export our gases, which we can downstream the industry for? So far, we have been importing LNG or LPG. Why isn’t it made domestically,” Luhut said.

Luhut previously stated that he would propose to President Jokowi to stop gas exports when talking about gas downstream.

“We might suggest to our president not to export our gas outside anymore. If there is an existing contract, go ahead, but stop it if it expires,” Luhut said at the CNBC Indonesia Economic Update program.

It seems that the discourse proposed by Luhut will be supported by SKK Migas. Deputy for Finance and Commercialization of SKK Migas Kurnia Chairi explained that the government’s policy is to optimize gas utilization for domestic use.

“Regarding the export ban, I think I said earlier, that indeed the government’s policy is to use it for domestic use,” he said in a press conference for the upstream oil and gas industry in semester I-2023, Tuesday (18/7/2023).

His party will continue to encourage the industry to absorb gas. As is the case with fertilizer factories in Papua.

“We will continue to encourage the domestic industry to be able to utilize our gas. In Papua, we will encourage the construction of a urea plant, then a methanol plant in Bojonegoro, then maybe blue ammonia,” he said.

Coordinating Minister Luhut Emphasizes the Three Functions of KPK in Preventing Corruption

Coordinating Minister Luhut Emphasizes the Three Functions of KPK in Preventing Corruption

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 18, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jakarta –

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan reminded KPK three functions in preventing corruption. Luhut said enforcement was the last function of KPK.

“Actually there are three functions of the KPK. System improvement, then prevention, final enforcement. I repeat, enforcement is the last,” Luhut said while speaking in a discussion on port governance at the KPK, South Jakarta, Tuesday (18/7/2023 ).

Luhut believes that the public prefers the Corruption Eradication Commission to prioritize the enforcement function. He alluded to more drama that occurs in a corruption crackdown.

“But we all just want to see action taken. We really like drama. Even though what the KPK has done is very much in my opinion,” said Luhut.

Luhut said the KPK’s function in the field of prevention must be strengthened. He said digitalization was one of the important things in preventing corruption in Indonesia.

“Not many people know how the program we digitize at ports, digitizing almost all of it saves hundreds of trillions. So the function of prevention is good. The function of enforcement is if it’s smaller, it’s because prevention is good, enforcement will be reduced. So don’t just drama. as seen,” said Luhut.

Luhut asked all parties to see the problem as a whole. He hopes that the prosecution by the KPK will not be dramatized.

“I just want to enlighten my friends so that we see the problem holistically. So don’t dramatize it,” he said.
