KOMPAS.com – Walking is a light sport with minimal injury so it can be done at any age.

One person who regularly does walking is the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menkomarves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Through his TikTok account, Luhut shared his daily walking routine during the health recovery period in Singapore.

“I’ve been walking every day now. Gradually, one and a half kilometers, two kilometers,” said Luhut, as reported by @luhut.pandjaitanMonday (20/11/2023).

For your information, Luhut will be 76 years old in September 2023.

So, what are the benefits of walking for the elderly?

Walking for the elderly has health benefits. Quoted from The Washington Postthe more steps an elderly person takes, the lower the risk of cardiovascular disease they experience.

Cardiovascular disease is a common health problem that occurs with age, starting from high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.

Here are 7 benefits of walking for the elderly:

1. Low risk of death

A study published in the Lancet in March 2023 found that walking in those aged over 60 years can reduce the risk of disease.

The same thing was also revealed in a journal published in JAMA Internal Medicine in September 2023.

The study found that walking faster reduced the risk of death.

The research analysis concluded that walking just 1.5 kilometers has benefits for body health.

2. Healthier body

Report on the Lifestyle Intervention and Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) trial in Harvard Health Publishing shows that walking combined with strength and balance training makes the body healthier.

The trial was carried out on 1,600 men and women aged 70-20 years.

After 2.5 years of walking and light exercise, the elderly experienced a 28 percent reduction in the risk of disability in the form of difficulty walking.

They were also 18 percent less likely to have a physical disability. These findings show that walking for the elderly can make their bodies healthier and physically active.

3. Extend life

Recent studies conducted on individuals aged 85 years and over prove that walking for one hour a week reduces the risk of death and cardiovascular disease.

“Our research shows that walking even just an hour every week is beneficial for those aged 85 years and over compared to those who are completely inactive,” said Moo-Nyun Jin from Inje University, South Korea, as reported by Medical News Today.

These findings show that individuals who walk at least 1 hour a week have a higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease than those who do not actively walk.

The research was then presented at the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology in 2022.

4. Improve the welfare of life

The benefits of walking also have an impact on improving your well-being.

Reporting from Better Healthhere are the benefits of walking for the elderly:

Strengthens muscles Helps maintain a stable weight Reduces the risk of disease Strengthens bones Helps lower blood pressure Improves balance Maintains joints Improves mood Reduces depression and anxiety Increases body stamina Improves social life.

5. Reduces the risk of dementia

Senior Advisor at Healthy Howard Jolene Caufield said, walking for those aged 60 years and over can increase brain sharpness so as to avoid the risk of dementia.

“Walking is not only a way to literally keep you active. It is also one of the best ways to reduce the risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s,” he said, as reported by Eat This Not That.

The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that walking increased the size of the hippocampus among older adults.

The hippocampus is responsible for memory formation.

Seniors who regularly walk also score higher in memory tests.

Additionally, research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reports physical activity over the age of 50 is associated with better overall cognitive function.

6. Prevent depression

Walking is scientifically proven to be beneficial for mental health.

Research published in JAMA Psychiatry shows that walking for one hour per day can reduce the risk of depression by more than a quarter.

“We saw a 26% percent reduction in the odds of becoming depressed for every large increase in objectively measured physical activity,” wrote Karmel Choi, Ph.D., a clinical researcher and researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. the same one.

Another study published in Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine and tracking nearly 5,000 adults over 65 found that walking helped promote stronger overall mental health.

7. Muscles and bones are stronger

As we age, a person’s muscle mass and bones will weaken, thereby affecting the joints.

The muscle mass will shrink and become smaller. To overcome this, you can do walking activities.

Walking provides enough resistance to build and maintain muscle mass without damaging the body.

This is another benefit that walking has over other types of intense exercise for seniors.

On the other hand, research published in The American Journal of Medicine concluded that postmenopausal women who walked about 1.5 kilometers every day had higher bone density.

Strategies to Prevent Sinking Islands in Riau: Mangrove Planting and More

Jakarta –

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan reveals strategies to prevent a number of islands in Riau from sinking. One of them is related to mangrove planting.

This was stated by Luhut in the West Merdeka Forum 9 discussion event which was broadcast via YouTube FMB9ID_IKP, Monday (25/9/2023). Initially, a journalist asked Luhut about the 4 islands in Riau which were in danger of sinking.

“There are four islands in Riau in danger of sinking and disappearing from the surface, what concrete strategic steps is the government taking?” asked the journalist.

Luhut responded. According to Luhut, there are two things that need to be highlighted.

“One, the problem of increasing global temperatures by one and a half degrees. We really need that, try not to let it happen,” explained Luhut.

The next step is related to planting mangroves. However, the problem is that local residents, explained Luhut, often cut mangroves to make charcoal.

“Secondly, we must do the planting of mangroves around the coastline together, not just the government,” said Luhut.

He asked people who often cut mangroves to look for other jobs. “Find another search, don’t cut Mangroves because I also just found out that the best quality food is Mangrove charcoal. It’s a hassle if you want to do that, plant Mangroves according to the number. If you cut one, plant it. two,” explained Luhut.

Indonesia’s Electric Vehicle Ecosystem and the Transition to Clean Energy

Jakarta –

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, open the sound of an electric vehicle whose power still comes from a coal-fired power plant. According to Luhut, the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia is being built. So, everything must be done gradually.

Luhut emphasized that the process of switching to electric cars must be carried out in a balanced manner, meaning taking many things into consideration. Currently the power plant still uses new stone, but in the future it will definitely adopt other, cleaner energy.

“Everything is mixed, it’s impossible all at once, so it’s gradual. We have to create a balance. The point is, don’t disturb the best load,” said Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan when attending the 2023 IKAXA National Seminar, Senayan, Central Jakarta, recently.

“Now our carbon emissions are 2.3 tons per capita. America has 15 tons, the best line is 4.5 tons. So we have room to enter. That’s why we have to understand that,” he added.

According to PT PLN (Persero) records, the installed electricity generating capacity until 2030 will reach 99.2 Giga Watt (GW). Meanwhile, almost half or 45 percent is dominated by new stone and the rest is divided between gas (26 percent), water (15 percent), geothermal (6 percent) and others.

The use of solar energy as electricity generation is still in the range of 5 percent. In fact, according to Agus Purwadi, an automotive observer and electricity expert at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the use of solar energy should be a priority amidst the onslaught of electric cars.

To detikOto, Agus explained that the most ideal energy source for electricity generation currently implemented in Indonesia is a solar photovoltaic system or solar PV. According to him, the use of solar PV must be done immediately before the price becomes more expensive.

“Using solar PV is currently the most ideal (to be implemented) in Indonesia. The use of solar PV (as a source of power generation energy) in Indonesia must be done immediately. Because if it is postponed, the costs will definitely be even more expensive,” explained Agus.

According to Agus, a number of developing countries in Asia are starting to switch from coal to solar PV. That is why, as one of the main players in electric vehicles in the Yellow Continent, Indonesia must adopt the same energy source.

“If we look at a number of studies, we have to go to PV. So like it or not, Indonesia has to go there. Even in India, PV is much cheaper,” said Agus.

Wuling Motors Indonesia Responds to Challenge, Launches Electric Car Under IDR 200 Million

Jakarta –

Wuling Motors Indonesia responding to the challenge of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to sell electric car cheap under IDR 200 million in Indonesia. The four-wheeled manufacturer from China claims to have ‘answered’ this challenge.

Dian Asmahani as Marketing Director of Wuling Motors Indonesia said that his party already has an electric car under IDR 200 million, namely the Wuling Air ev Lite.

According to Dian, the announced price does include a tax deduction of IDR 188 million. However, he said, the original price was cheap, namely IDR 206 million with on-road status in Jakarta.

“We already have electric cars under IDR 200 million. Air EV Lite. Actually, even apart from the VAT incentive, the price is not much different. So I think we have answered that challenge,” said Dian in response to Luhut’s statement, quoted Friday (15/ 9).

When asked whether Wuling would launch another electric car under IDR 200 million (before incentives were deducted), Dian could not speak. Because, currently the party is still focused on marketing Wuling Air ev.

“I can’t say anything yet, I’m still focused on Wuling Air EV first,” he stressed.

Previously, when delivering material at the 2023 IKAXA National Seminar, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Luhut challenged Wuling to sell electric cars for under IDR 200 million. Because, he said, it could increase interest in non-emission vehicles in Indonesia.

“Several models (electric cars) have been exhibited at GIIAS 2023. I think there are 10 models, so you just have to choose what design and price, from expensive to cheap. I think you can make this Wuling for under IDR 200 million. ” said Luhut on Thursday (14/9).

According to Luhut, currently the price factor is still one of the ‘obstacles’ to the electric vehicle transition. That is why Wuling, which has been producing non-emission cars domestically, has been asked to reduce prices further.

Pertamina to Build Giant Refinery in Kenya: Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 14, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jakarta –

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that Pertamina will build a giant refinery in Kenya. The refinery’s production capacity is planned to reach 300 thousand barrels per day.

“He will build an oil refinery. Later, it will be in stages of 300,000 BOPD,” said Luhut after attending the IKAXA National Seminar, Thursday (14/9/2023).

He said the oil that Pertamina would process came from several countries around Kenya, from Sudan to Uganda. Some oil supplies will also be met directly from Kenya.

In the future, the Kenyan government will become an off taker, aka a permanent buyer of the production of the giant Pertamina refinery.

“So it will be built by Pertamina from South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya. The government will take the off-taker,” said Luhut.

During President Jokowi’s visit to Africa on 20-24 August 2023, Pertamina did participate. According to detikcom’s notes, Pertamina is exploring cooperation opportunities by making agreements with energy companies in Kenya. The collaboration takes the form of developing potential in the upstream and geothermal sectors.

President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati said this collaboration encouraged Pertamina’s enthusiasm as a BUMN in establishing bilateral relations with countries in Africa, one of which was Kenya.

“We bring the spirit of the government, the spirit of the Asian-African Conference, Bandung in 1955. We are now working together in economic development. Pertamina itself is opening up opportunities for cooperation in the upstream to downstream sectors, including geothermal in Kenya,” said Nicke in a written statement, Monday (21/ 8/2023) ago.

At that time Luhut was studying at NDU Washington DC, United States when he had the rank of Colonel. However, the situation changed when Benny entered retirement.

The news of Benny and Suharto’s disharmony made Luhut curious until Benny finally admitted that Suharto was offended by Benny’s suggestion.

The closeness of Luhut and Benny actually made Luhut’s career fade after Benny retired. Throughout his career in the TNI, he never held command, such as Danjen Kopassus, Pangdam, Pangkostrad, let alone Kasad.
