Former Bill Gates Climateโข Lobbyists โLaunch New โขClean Energy Nonprofit
WASHINGTON D.C. โ – A new nonprofit organization,โ the Clean Economy Project, has โbeen founded by formerโ lobbyists from Bill Gates’s breakthroughโค Energy, following the disbandment of that organization’sโ energy policy team in March. โThe โฃnew venture aims to accelerate the โฃtransition toโ clean energy by focusing on project โprogress, innovation, and investment.
The Clean Economy Project,โฃ informally known โฃas CleanEcon,โ sharesโค a โcore โbelief with Breakthrough Energy:โ thatโ clean energy sourcesโข can become economically competitive with fossil fuels. The organization is backedโฃ by over 10 undisclosed funders, including โคphilanthropists and venture โฃcapitalists, and currently employs a team of 10.
according to a press release, CleanEcon’s three โขprimary โฃgoals are “building energy โขprojects faster; accelerating innovation to lower costs; and derisking private investment into clean โขindustries.”
The launch ofโค CleanEcon follows a strategic โขdecisionโ by Bill Gatesโ to scale back Breakthrough Energy’s lobbying efforts earlier thisโ year. A New York Times report from March indicated Gates determined that lobbying wouldโ be โineffective during the Trump governance.
Leading the new organization is Aliya Haq, who previously served as vice president of U.S. policy and advocacy at Breakthroughโข Energy for nearly โฃsix years.
