Steven Gerrard Eyes Backroom‍ Staff ⁤as rangers Return Looms

Glasgow, Scotland – ⁣Steven Gerrard is ⁤already ⁢formulating plans for his potential backroom team at Rangers as he continues⁤ discussions‌ with the club’s new American owners, with sources indicating an⁢ interest in bringing in a key ally⁢ of England⁣ manager Gareth Southgate. The former Rangers boss held exploratory talks in London yesterday regarding the vacant managerial position, and is⁣ seeking clarity‍ on ⁢the new ownership structure before committing to a ⁢return to⁢ Ibrox.

Gerrard, who previously managed Rangers for three ⁤and a half years – culminating ‍in the⁣ club’s historic 55th league title in 2021⁣ before departing for Aston Villa ⁣- is‍ reportedly ‍keen to assemble a strong support staff should he be appointed. While no‌ formal offers⁤ have⁢ been made yet, steven Davis, a⁢ Rangers legend currently ‌working with⁢ Northern Ireland⁣ national team boss Michael ⁣O’Neill,⁢ has been linked with a potential role, though Record Sport ‍understands he hasn’t ‍been approached at this ⁢stage.

The focus, however, appears to be on bolstering the‌ coaching setup ⁤with individuals familiar ⁣with modern footballing strategies. gerrard is said to be considering ⁤individuals within Southgate’s England setup, ⁤suggesting a desire to implement a progressive and analytical approach at Rangers.

“I’d ‍love ⁣another couple of challenges and that’s ‍what I’m working on in the background at⁤ the ⁢moment. A few different ⁣ideas, a few different people around me,” Gerrard has ⁤stated, hinting at his‌ proactive approach to potential staffing decisions.

Rangers’ leadership is also evaluating other managerial candidates following the dismissal⁢ of Michael⁤ beale, but Gerrard remains their primary target. He ⁢has emphasized‌ the importance of understanding ‍the new owners’ ⁣vision for the club before ⁤finalizing ⁢any agreement.

Alexis Mac Allister‘s Struggles Highlight⁤ Growing Concerns for Arne Slot as Liverpool Midfield Faces Questions

Concerns are mounting over the form of Alexis ⁢Mac Allister, with the Liverpool midfielder appearing hampered by ongoing fitness issues and struggling ⁣to impact matches. The situation is especially worrying for manager Arne Slot as he assesses his options, with several players⁢ now under scrutiny just months into the season.

Mac Allister, currently rated at 5.44, has yet to reach full fitness following problems over the last six months, frequently‍ appearing uninvolved during midfield play. His difficulties are indicative of a wider issue for Slot, as he evaluates ‌a squad where several players are failing ‌to consistently meet expectations. This comes at a crucial time for Liverpool as they navigate a demanding schedule and attempt to establish a clear identity under their new manager.

Beyond Mac Allister, several other Liverpool players are raising questions. While not yet featuring consistently enough⁢ for formal rankings, Rio Ngumoha has impressed with a rating of 7.33, largely due to his match-winning goal against Newcastle. Giorgi Mamardashvili has also shown promise during his time in goal,‍ earning a 6.67 rating, while Joe Gomez, with a 6.33, is arguably deserving of increased playing ‌time.

Wataru⁢ Endo, currently at 5.75, has yet to fully establish himself in the team. The performance of these players will be critical as Slot seeks to solidify his midfield and build a cohesive, competitive⁤ squad capable of challenging for honors.

Gary Lineker and jamie redknapp Agree⁢ on Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s ⁢Value‌ to Liverpool

Recent commentary from football figures gary Lineker and⁢ Jamie Redknapp highlights the important impact of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s‍ absence on Liverpool’s performance, reinforcing a widely held view of his importance to the team. The observations come as Liverpool navigate challenges at the right-back position, with multiple players failing to consistently replicate Alexander-Arnold’s contributions.

The ⁤third edition of Blood ⁣Red,‍ the Liverpool FC monthly publication from ⁤the ECHO, is now on sale, offering further analysis of the club’s current situation. Copies can be ordered here or purchased at participating retailers in the ⁤Liverpool area.

Lineker emphasized Alexander-Arnold’s attacking prowess, stating,”You’ve got to say it was worth his⁤ weight in gold going ⁢forward, and I always used to say,’Stop worrying about him making the odd tiny mistake defensively, because what he gives you the other ‍way is incredible.'”

Redknapp echoed these sentiments, pointing to the difficulties Liverpool have faced since Alexander-Arnold’s injury. ⁢”They’ve got problems at full-back. They’re missing Trent [Alexander-Arnold],” Redknapp told ‌Sky Sports on Saturday. He further noted the struggles of Conor Bradley and Milos Kerkez in filling the role, stating Bradley “had a tough 45 minutes” and Kerkez “hasn’t quite adapted.”

Redknapp also acknowledged broader issues within the squad, alongside andy Robertson‘s injury, suggesting the international break presents an opportunity for Arne ‍Slot‘s team to “reset.”

Alisson & Ekitike Injury Updates: Liverpool Star Availability

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor October 1, 2025

Injury Update: Alisson ‌Becker and Hugo Ekitike

Liverpool suffered a⁣ double injury blow during their 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahçe at RAMS Park in the Champions League. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker was forced off in the second half after denying Victor Osimhen with⁣ a crucial one-on-one save. Shortly after, forward hugo Ekitike also had to be substituted.

Speaking after ⁢the match, manager Arne Slot expressed serious concerns about alisson’s ‌condition. “When he sprinted back he‍ felt ⁢something.‍ I cannot tell ⁤you [exactly] because I‍ am not a physio, but normally when a player sprints back, feels something, goes to the floor and doesn’t come back onto the ‌pitch [it’s not good],” Slot explained. He⁣ added, “If my player is on the floor, I nine out of ⁢10 ⁣times fear the worst ‍- and by the worst I mean he ⁢cannot ⁢continue. ⁢That’s ⁣what happened with⁤ Alisson.”

Slot indicated Alisson‌ is highly ‍unlikely to feature ⁤in Saturday’s Premier League match against ‍Chelsea, stating, “Normally, he will not be able to⁣ play Saturday. That’s 99.9 per⁢ cent – I’ve already said 100 per cent, but let’s make it⁣ 99.9 [although] I think it’s 100.”

Ekitike’s injury ‍occurred on 68 minutes in⁢ Istanbul ⁢after he⁣ went down while stretching ⁤for‌ a⁢ forward⁤ pass. Slot confirmed the⁣ forward will be ⁢assessed, saying, “He felt something when he had to reach for the ball… He said he couldn’t continue⁢ so we had ⁢to take him off. Let’s see how he is for the weekend.” Slot noted the difficulty‍ in immediately⁢ gauging the severity of injuries, explaining, ”After the game, that’s always the difficult thing with these⁢ moments when‌ players feel like‍ it is not too bad, but when you just walk ⁣around it is something different than when you make a sprint or‍ have ⁣to shoot⁣ on target.”

Both players will undergo evaluation by⁣ the club’s medical staff⁣ to determine the‍ extent of ⁤their injuries and their potential recovery ⁤timelines.

Why Liverpool Was the Right Choice

New Liverpool signing Hugo Ekitike has explained his decision to join the club this summer, citing the team’s status as the reigning champions of England and its rich history as key factors. He believes Liverpool presented the ideal environment for his advancement following his time at Frankfurt.

It’s just the best choice, it’s the champion of England. For me, they had great players, great history. It just fit with what I was looking for after Frankfurt. I think it was a good choice from me. That’s why I chose Liverpool – it’s just the best option and I wanted to come.

Facing Galatasaray and Early Season Adaptations

Ekitike acknowledged the challenges of facing Galatasaray in an away Champions League match, recognizing the difficulty of playing outside of Anfield. He addressed questions regarding tactical approaches, specifically concerning “giving space to opponents,” stating that the team is still in the early stages of building connections and adapting to each other’s playing styles.

He expressed confidence that these connections will strengthen with time.

From Benchwarmer to Key Player in the Champions League

Ekitike reflected on his previous Champions league experience with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), noting that he was younger and primarily a spectator on the bench. He contrasted that experience with his current role at Liverpool, where he aims to be a meaningful contributor to the team’s success in the competition.

while acknowledging he didn’t anticipate his immediate impact, he emphasized his dedication to preparation and continuous enhancement.

to say I knew I would perform like that, no – but that’s what I expected. I work for that. Obviously I’m happy that it works and I just want to keep going and do even more for this team. When I first played [in the] Champions League with PSG [Paris Saint-Germain], I was young, I was on the bench, I was more watching. I would say now it’s my time being someone who can help the team to reach success [in the] Champions League and I’m very grateful for that. I will give 100 per cent of myself.

Looking Ahead

Ekitike’s commitment to Liverpool is clear, and he is focused on maximizing his contribution to the team’s ambitions both domestically and in the Champions League.
