Baylor Bears Lose to Arizona Wildcats in Fourth-Quarter Collapse

Baylor’s bowl hopes took a significant hit Saturday, falling to arizona 41-17 after a decisive fourth-quarter collapse at McLane Stadium. The loss drops the Bears to 3-6 on the season,leaving them with only one game remaining to achieve bowl eligibility.

The game began as a back-and-forth affair, but Arizona pulled away in the second half, capitalizing on Baylor miscues. While freshman running back Caden Knighten provided a spark for the Baylor offence with 17 carries for 100 yards, it wasn’t enough to overcome a strong performance from Arizona’s offense and costly turnovers.

Arizona receiver Tetairoa McMillan finished the game with a team-high nine catches for 133 yards.baylor quarterback Blake Robertson expressed frustration with his own performance,stating,”We knew coming into the game we were going to hit them with things and they were going to hit us with things. We just weren’t able to recover from my mistakes.”

The two defenses settled in during the second quarter, with baylor managing one of two field goals. Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita was intercepted by Baylor junior safety DJ Coleman, who helped finish the first half with Baylor leading 17-14.

“We were playing fast,” Coleman said.”We knew what they were going to do … and we came out with the lead at the end of the first half.”

Arizona’s Michael Mahdi led the team with 14 runs for 93 yards, and running back DJ Reescano found the end zone three times. Robertson threw for 162 yards, with 71 yards going to receiver Cole Cameron.

With their bowl aspirations dwindling, Baylor will face No. 23 Houston next Saturday at McLane Stadium. coleman emphasized the team’s continued motivation, saying, “We’re playing for the seniors that still got another game left. We don’t want to just give up on the season … Houston’s a good team, but we still feel like we can win.”

Russia & China Finalize Deal for⁢ power ‍of⁢ Siberia 2 Gas Pipeline

BEIJING – Russia and China have reached a legally binding‍ agreement ⁣for the⁣ construction of the Power ⁤of Siberia 2 gas ‌pipeline, which will transit through Mongolia, and the Soyuz Vostok pipeline, according⁢ to a statement ‌from Gazprom’s Alexey Miller reported by Bloomberg and Interfax. The deal was solidified during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and⁢ Chinese⁣ President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Currently,Russia supplies gas to⁤ China via the Power of⁤ Siberia pipeline,with an annual transport capacity of⁣ 38 billion ⁢cubic meters. The new “Far⁣ East route” is expected to increase Russian annual gas flows to China by an ⁢additional ‍10 billion cubic meters starting in 2027. Power of Siberia 2 is intended to significantly double Russia’s current ⁢gas export capacity to‍ China.

The meeting between Putin and Xi underscored the‌ strengthening relationship⁢ between the⁤ two countries following Russia’s ‍invasion of Ukraine.‍ Xi Jinping welcomed Putin as an “old friend,” stating that China-Russia⁢ relations⁢ have “resisted the proof of the changing international circumstances” and serve as “a good example of friendship between neighbors, of global strategic coordination and mutually advantageous cooperation.”

Putin reciprocated the ⁤sentiment, thanking Xi for the⁤ “hot welcome” and noting ‍that bilateral‍ ties have reached “unprecedented levels.” He added, “Our close communications reflect ‍the ⁣strategic ⁣nature of the ⁣Russian-Chinese ties, which⁤ are ⁢at an unprecedented level… We have ⁢always been ⁤together⁢ in the past and we will also be in the ⁢future.”

The agreement follows trilateral talks involving Putin, Xi, and Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, focusing on unlocking the Power of Siberia 2 project and navigating logistical considerations, including the ⁣pipeline’s route through Mongolia.

Xi Jinping also held⁤ bilateral meetings with Uzbek President Shavkat mirziyoyev and Pakistani Prime‍ Minister Shahbaz Sharif earlier in the day.

Dr. Hammouda recounted that from his preparatory school days, he set his sights on joining the Faculty of Arts, specifically the Arabic language department. He highlighted that this department, once graced by the esteemed Taha Hussein, did not require exceptionally high scores for admission, a goal he successfully achieved.

High School: A Shift in Perception

Speaking exclusively to “The Seventh Day,” Dr. Hammouda observed that high school has evolved into a critically important source of anxiety for both students and thier parents. He suggested that this pressure could be mitigated if students identified their interests early, selected colleges aligned with those interests, and dedicated themselves to their studies, irrespective of societal perceptions of prestigious versus less desirable institutions.

Concluding his remarks, the professor extended congratulations to all prosperous students and their families, as well as to those who experienced worry and tension during this period. Actress Denies Role in Sabungeros’ Disappearance

Whistleblower implicates Barretto in missing cockfighting enthusiasts case

**Gretchen Barretto**, actress and socialite, refuted allegations of involvement in the disappearance of over 30 “sabungeros,” or cockfighting enthusiasts. This comes after a whistleblower implicated her in the case.

Key Allegations

**Julie “Dondon” Patidongan**, also known as “Alyas Totoy,” identified himself as the security chief for **Charlie “Atong” Ang**’s game fowl farms for 15 years. He alleges that **Barretto** and **Ang**, a gaming tycoon involved in online cockfighting, orchestrated the abduction and killing of the sabungeros.

Barretto’s Firm Denial

In a statement through her lawyer, **Alma Mallonga**, **Barretto** dismissed the allegations as purely speculative. The statement asserts that the whistleblower admits to having no direct knowledge of any wrongdoing by **Barretto**.

“While he has not witnessed anything that **Ms. Barretto** has said or done, the whistleblower maliciously speculates she must nonetheless somehow be involved because of her close connection with **Mr. Atong Ang**. He insists that **Ms. Barretto**, being an ‘alpha member’ of Pitmaster, must know everything that is happening. He has even changed his story, now characterizing **Ms. Barretto** as a ‘mastermind’ based on the suspicion and illogical reasoning.”

**Barretto** acknowledged being one of approximately 20 investors but denied involvement in the day-to-day operations of the business. According to Statista, the cockfighting industry in the Philippines generated over 5 billion pesos in revenue in 2022, prior to the suspension of e-sabong operations (Statista 2022).

**Barretto** emphasized that she did not manage the “sabungan” (cockpit) and had no involvement in the suspended e-sabong operations. Her statement further refuted any attendance at meetings concerning the disappearances, calling the accusations absurd and fabricated.

Extortion Attempt

**Barretto**’s statement also revealed an attempted extortion, where an offer was made to remove her name from the suspect list in exchange for payment, which she refused.

Official Response

On July 3, Justice Secretary **Jesus Crispin Remulla** confirmed that **Barretto**’s name surfaced during the Justice Department’s investigation, but the information remains unverified, and no formal charges have been filed.

**Ang** has also denied any involvement and has initiated criminal lawsuits against **Patidongan** and **Alan “Brown” Bantiles**. The charges include conspiracy to commit attempted robbery with violence, grave threats, grave coercion, slander, and falsely implicating innocent individuals.

Police Involvement

**Patidongan** implicated police officers in the killing of the sabungeros, alleging their bodies were dumped into Taal Lake in Batangas. **Rafael Calinisan**, National Police Commission Vice Chairman, stated in a radio interview that the named officers might still be on active duty.
