“One Battle After Another” Earns $3.1 Million in Thursday Previews
Warner Bros.’ new epic action thriller, “One Battle After Another,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, opened with $3.1 million in Thursday previews. The film is projected to earn between $20 million and $25 million during its opening weekend, mirroring DiCaprio’s 2023 release, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” directed by Martin Scorsese.
The performance of “One Battle After Another” is being closely watched as the film carries a substantial $130 million production price tag and requires approximately $300 million globally to break even. While DiCaprio’s star power and Anderson’s directorial reputation, coupled with positive reviews, are expected to draw audiences, the film faces a high financial hurdle. Warner Bros. has enjoyed a recent streak of box office successes, with its last seven releases each opening above $40 million, including titles like “A Minecraft Movie,” “sinners,” and “Superman.”
“One Battle After Another” features DiCaprio as a former revolutionary navigating a tough relationship with his teenage daughter while confronting a figure from his past. The cast also includes Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Regina Hall.
Other films opening this weekend include Universal’s family film “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” wich earned $700,000 in previews and is projected to open between $12 million and $15 million, and Lionsgate’s horror sequel “The Strangers: Chapter 2,” which made $630,000 in previews and is expected to earn $6 million to $8 million.
