Lawsuit Alleges Deplorable Conditions at Illinois ICE Facility
BROADVIEW, Ill. โข – A lawsuit filed Thursday alleges severe mistreatment andโ inhumane conditions atโ an immigration and โคCustoms Enforcement (ICE) facility in โคBroadview, Illinois, withโค detainees claiming they are being “warehoused” for daysโ without adequateโ food, water,โ medical care, or sanitation.
The suit details โallegations of overcrowding, with โdozens โฃof people reportedly sleeping on plastic chairs or concrete floors for weeks. Detainees areโค allegedly denied access to menstrual products and clean clothing, and bathroomsโ lack privacy, โขexposing both โขmen and women while usingโ the โtoilet. Temperatures โฃwithinโ the facility are described asโ extreme, โwith limited access to blankets or warm clothing. Theโ lawsuit โขfurther claims detainees are not receiving medical screenings and are โฃbeing denied access to prescriptionโค medications brought by family members.
These claims echo concerns previously raised by experts, asโฃ reportedโ by USA TODAY.
According to the lawsuit,โ immigration authorities are currently holding people at โฃthe Broadview โฃfacilityโ “for days on end.”
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s spokesperson,โค Ian McLaughlin,โฃ vehemently denied the allegations,โ stating, “Any claims there areโฃ subprimeโฃ conditions at the โBroadview ICEโค facility are false.” McLaughlin asserted โthat โadequate food, water, privacy, and medical care โฃare provided, and that detainees โขhave access to communication with family and legal counsel. He also stated the facility โคis not intended โfor โคlong-term detention.
“Some ofโค the worst of the worst including pedophiles, โฃgang โmembers,โค and rapists have been processed through the facility in recent weeks,” McLaughlin added. “The ACLU should โjust change its name. it’s โclear they onlyโ care about criminal โillegal โขaliens-not Americans.”
The Americanโข Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is representing the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.
This case comes amidโข ongoing scrutiny of ICE detention centers โand immigration โenforcement practices. In a relatedโฃ incident, U.S. Congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh was recently indicted for her involvement in protests against ICEโ in Chicago, according to a USA TODAY โขreport from October 29, 2025.
