Kaufland Launches Telemedicine practices Within Grocery Stores
Mosbach, Germany – November 7,โ 2023 – Groceryโข retailer Kaufland isโค piloting in-store medical treatment through a partnership with Sana Clinics, beginning with a โbranch in Mosbach. โฃThe โคnewโ “S | Medical Room” offers video consultations withโฃ family doctors, supported by on-site medicalโฃ assistants.
Kaufland, owned by the Schwarz Group, aims toโฃ “supplement the โhealth careโ of local people” and “bring medical services into people’sโฃ livingโข environment,” according โคto aโข Kaufland spokesman. The practices, located near the butcher shop and bakery, will โalso offer “small check-ups,”โ such as bodyโ analyses conducted by Sana Kliniken specialists.
The service is available to โpatientsโฃ with statutoryโ and โขprivate insurance, as well as self-payers forโ additional โคservices. Kauflandโค is not simply providing space; the “S | Medical Room” in Mosbach is a branch of the existing medical care center (MVZ)โข operated jointly โby Kaufland โฃand Sana Kliniken at the Schwarz โฃGroup headquarters in Neckarsulm. This MVZ already provides treatment for Schwarz employees.
Sana Kliniken operates 46 hospitals and 57 MVZ facilities nationwide. โคKaufland operates overโ 780 stores โin Germany. While the companies see “great potential” in โthe concept, expansion will dependโ on the results from the Mosbach pilot.โข A Sana spokesman stated the system is “easily scalable.”
The move follows a similar strategy by drugstore chain dm, which recently began offering healthโ treatments like eye tests and skin โscans in its stores. โคThe Schwarz Group โฃis also reportedly considering entering the mail order businessโฃ for medicines,as reported by Handelsblatt.
