Snapchat has launched a new feature allowing users to permanentlyโค saveโค conversations, responding to long-standing โuser demand. Theโ “Infinite โretention” feature, tested since 2024,offersโ a โsetting to disable disappearing messages on a per-conversation basis. Snap stated, “We’veโข often heardโ from our community thatโฃ Snapchat users want theโ abilityโ to saveโค their conversations forever.”
Previously, saving messages requiredโค individually tapping โand holding them. The โคnew setting simplifies thisโ process, and whenโ activated, the other participant in โขthe chat is notified and has the option โto disable the feature โfor their side of theโค conversation. This allows โfor โขselective preservation of โขchats, such asโค maintaining a permanent record with closeโข friends while keeping ephemeral messaging for other contacts.
Alongside Infinite โฃretention,Snapchat is also introducing “Group Streaks.” Traditionally, Snapchat Streaks-representing consecutive daysโค of snap exchanges-were limitedโ to two users. Group Streaks allow multiple friends to contribute to a โsingle streak, which โcontinues as long as a majority โคofโฃ participants maintain the daily โexchange.
