Steven Knight Takes the Reins for Amazon’s First James Bond Film
Acclaimed “Peaky Blinders” Creator Expresses Excitement for Iconic Franchise
Award-winning screenwriter **Steven Knight** has officially been tapped to pen Amazon’s inaugural James Bond cinematic venture, marking a significant moment for both the legendary spy franchise and the creator of the acclaimed series “Peaky Blinders.”
A Dream Gig Secured
Speaking on BBC Radio this morning, **Knight** shared his immediate reaction to the monumental news. The writer revealed his long-held aspiration to contribute to the Bond legacy. “It has always been on my bucket list, and it’s fantastic to be invited to do it. I can’t wait to get started,” he stated.
**Knight** aims to deliver a fresh yet familiar take on the iconic character. He expressed, “I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder.”
Villeneuve Collaboration Confirmed
The screenplay will be crafted by **Knight** for acclaimed director **Denis Villeneuve** to bring to life. However, **Knight** remained tight-lipped regarding casting rumors for the coveted role of 007. “That is a very, very good question, and one I can’t give you the answer to,”
he responded when questioned by the BBC.
Sources indicate that **Knight** was the top choice for the writing gig, with his appointment finalized only after a crucial meeting with **Villeneuve**, who is currently occupied with the production of the next “Dune” installment. The meeting, which occurred last week, solidified **Villeneuve**’s support for **Knight** taking on the project.
The film is being produced by **Amy Pascal** and **David Heyman**, with **Tanya Lapointe** serving as executive producer. While speculation about the next James Bond actor has been rife, recent industry focus has centered on securing the right writing talent, with **Knight** emerging as the clear frontrunner.
Knight’s Esteemed Career
Beyond his BAFTA-winning work on “Peaky Blinders,” **Steven Knight** boasts an impressive portfolio. His credits include the Emmy-nominated series “Taboo,” “See,” the BAFTA-nominated “SAS Rogue Heroes,” and “All the Light We Cannot See.” He was previously attached to a “Star Wars” feature but departed the project in October 2024.
The Bond franchise continues to be a global phenomenon, with the most recent installment, “No Time to Die,” grossing over $774 million worldwide. This new Amazon-backed film signifies a new chapter for the enduring spy saga.
