Apple to Enable 25W Wireless Charging for โขNewer iPhones with iOS 26 Update

appleโ€ is preparing โ€‹to substantially boost wireless charging speeds for select iPhone models with the upcoming iOS 26 software update. The โขnew feature will support the โ€ŒQi2โข wireless charging standard,โข enablingโข up to 25 watts of power delivery – a substantial increase โคover the previous 15-watt limit.

The move follows the Wireless Power ConsortiumS (WPC) โคproclamation of the Qi2 standard, capable of 25-wattโข charging,โ€Œ last July.โ€ Several devicesโ€‹ have alreadyโฃ begun incorporating the technology, including the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL.

According to โ€‹reports from Mac Rumors, the latest beta version โ€of iOSโ€‹ 26 already includes the necessary support โ€‹for Qi2.This isn’tโค the first instance of Apple introducing new Qi standard support through software updates. previously,โข faster charging capabilities were enabled for the iPhone 8 and iPhone X via iOS 11.2, andโฃ Qi2 โ€support was added to the iPhone 13 โฃand iPhoneโ€‹ 14 with the iOS 17.2 update.

However, achieving the โ€‹full 25-watt chargingโฃ speed requires compatible Qi2 chargers specifically designed for the higherโค wattage.โ€‹ Existing Qi chargers will continue โ€to function, but will be limited to a maximumโ€‹ outputโ€ of 15 โ€watts. โคCurrently,โ€‹ only a limited number of companies are producing โขQi2 chargers, with Belkin recently releasing a 25-watt capable charging base.

Apple โขhas clarified that the faster wireless charging feature will not be available on the iPhone 15 orโข older models. This limitation is attributed to differences in internal components and hardware configurations.

The Qi2 standard utilizes the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), buildingโ€ upon the existing Qi standard by incorporating magnetic alignment. This ensures more efficient power transfer and a more โ€‹reliable connection between the iPhone โฃand โคthe wireless charger, reducing energy loss and improving overall charging speed.
