Apple removes Night Mode from iPhone 17 Proโฃ Portraitโข Feature
Cupertino,โ CA – Apple has removed the โฃNight mode โfunction from the Portrait mode on itsโค newestโ iPhone โข17 Pro and 17 Pro Max,โฃ a change confirmed โฃon โthe company’s official โฃsupport page. The feature, previously available for creating photos with a bokeh effect in โlow-light conditions, is now absent from the latest โฃflagship devices.
The removal impacts users โwho โfrequently utilize Portrait modeโฃ in โdimly lit environments, diminishing their ability to capture subjects with sharp focus and blurred โฃbackgrounds. While Night mode remains โavailable onโฃ theโฃ iPhone 17 โPro for standard photos, selfies,โฃ and time-lapse videos, its absence in Portrait mode has sparked concern and userโฃ complaints.
Apple’s โsupportโ documentation details compatibility, listing the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 โฃPro Max throughโ the iPhone โค16 Pro and 16 Pro max as supportingโ Night mode within Portrait photography.
Reports surfaced last month on reddit, with โsome users, includingโค The Verge reporter Tom โWarren, initially believing the change to be a softwareโ bug. As of Friday,โ December 5,โ 2025,โข Apple has not issued a statement explaining the โฃdecision, โคleaving users โuncertain whether โคthe removal isโ permanent, a technicalโค limitation, or a feature slated for futureโค software updateโ inclusion.
Theโ change represents a stepโ backward for iPhone 17โข Pro users who relied on the artistic aesthetic โฃof โlow-light Portrait โฃmode, now โexclusive to iPhone 16 Pro models and earlier. Users can โฃstill utilize โขNight mode in standard photo mode, but will lose the specific โคeffectโ previously available in Portrait.
